Amazing Detective Labyrinth #04 — Tokyo Tower of the Dead

Zombies? In my Tokyo Tower?

Impressions:

So, I have to admit that I was totally tuning out and contemplating not even finishing it when we reached the halfway point. Mayuki, Kouta and Maru, the Fluffball, had gotten seperated from the other twin and the girl (who are trapped in an elevator) and it was basically 12 minutes of them running around talking about trusting eachother… and a really fluffy dog.

Then we reached minute 12. Mayuki and Kouta entered the ruined subway… and the undead were fucking everywhere. It was comic relief at the start, with Kouta screaming like a maniac while Mayuki made fun of him for being scared by mannikins… but then the actual zombies showed up.

Why does this show have zombies? Is ruined Tokyo infested with the living dead? Not just any zombies though… heat seeking zombies on wheels.

Let me repeat that.

Heat seeking zombies on wheels.

Clearly I haven’t been paying anywhere near enough attention to this show if this was reasonable for world they’ve built. Maybe they’re just a really basic form of the animated dolls, but they groan, hold their arms out, and for all you or I know, have a taste for human flesh. After they defeated all the zombies by tricking them into leaping down an elevator shaft… and then smacking one straggler with a chair, they restore power to the elevator and everybody staggers out of the ruined Tokyo Tower together.

The sheer incredulousness of that whole skating zombie routine forces me to nobly soldier on. I also got a laugh from Power Business Suit Byakko in the preview. Honestly. Who does she think she’s fooling? That’s even less of a disguise than stepping into a phone booth and taking off your glasses. She should probably do something about the hair and the giant flowers (bells?) attached to her head… and find a jacket that closes over her chest. It somehow almost manages to be more provocative than her normal skimpy dancergirl clothes.
