Box of Goblins #01 — Lesbians Drowning in Cherry Blossoms

More cherry blossoms! MORE!

New Season Disclaimer:

I’ll make a post for almost all new series (barring sequels) with a wrap-up and bullet point opinion of each once the premier week is over. Remember that these are just my kneejerk reactions to the first 20 minutes of shows, many of which in genres that I don’t even particularly like, but I do believe in giving every new series at least an episode to interest me.

Impressions:

Ughhhhhhhhhh… second of three Madhouse shows today, and I don’t even like Madhouse much to begin with. I’m not even certain what this show is really going for either. It started off with a girl’s head in a box, sighing at some man in a train. Then the next 20 minutes was a cherry blossom filled lesbian love story… sort of… between two relatively deranged girls that ended with a WW2 flashback and one of them getting mauled by a train. When you start off with a severed possessed head in a box, suicide/murder doesn’t really come as much of a surprise twist at the end, although the giant WW2 flashback was.

Like most Madhouse shows, not particularly impressive production values, though the art was consistent and sharp enough. The show could have used a lot more goddamned cherry blossoms, but maybe that’s just me. I’ve already completely forgotten the BGM to the episode, which tells me that it was nothing special, and my only real memory of the OP/ED is that the ED contains the girls marching naked in single-file. So… really, aside from the cherry blossoms and creepy obsessive lesbians, this really made no lasting impression on me.

At any rate, not really the genre of show I’m interested in to begin with, and it did precious little (ie nothing) to change my mind. My interest was at its highest when there was a severed head on the scene, and when it scaled that to simple spoiled and mentally unbalanced lesbian teenagers, my mind started to wander to a far better place. A place that wasn’t engulfed in pink petals every two to three minutes. There was cake there too.

Preview:

I could not conceivably care less.

I might be interested if there’s a consistent subbing effort. More murder mysteries please.
