Kemeko Deluxe! #01 — Attack of the Chibis
October 4th, 2008
It’s seven thousand times more terrifyng than I imagined.
New Season Disclaimer:
I’ll make a post for almost all new series (barring sequels) with a wrap-up and bullet point opinion of each once the premier week is over. Remember that these are just my kneejerk reactions to the first 20 minutes of shows, many of which in genres that I don’t even particularly like, but I do believe in giving every new series at least an episode to interest me.
Impressions:
Dude… Kemeko… take it down a notch. While KKN was a full scale assault on your ears, Kemeko brings at least sight into the mix too, and I wouldn’t be surprised if anybody had an epileptic shock from this one and just fell to the ground stunned. The show is… uh… very very very high energy and has the production values to back it up, though maybe it’s just the half dozen other shows I watched today, but this episode absolutely exhausted me. Everybody and everything about this show was loud, noisy, and completely in your face. How on earth does this air past midnight? I’m pretty sure you could use it to jolt people out of a coma if you had to.
Like I said, production values were probably the best I’ve seen of this season so far. There was a bit more fanservice than I expected, but it was all in the form of large breasts and thighs that could snap a man like a twig. No panty shots to be had here (aside from the OP)… except the Kemeko bot, and if you’re turned on by that, seek help. Seek help now. Characters were… alright I guess. I’m attracted to the excessive violence personally. There is no genre that couldn’t be improved by adding more violence. Sanpeita and… I’ve already forgotten her name could have been ripped from any number of bad harem shows though… let’s use Girls Bravo because that girl’s basically the fainting goat version of Kirie. The humor was pretty much as predicted from all the promos and the premise in general, so it wasn’t that funny, but having already seen about a fifth of the episode in the PVs… well… whatever.
So long as the action and production values keep up, this should be a pretty awesome show. I feel like it’s put me through the wringer, but in a much better way than KKN ever managed. Ugh… between this, Index, ZKC, and possibly Abyss… Saturdays are an absolute mess. I’d be sad if nobody covered this one though, so I’ll probably stick with it for at least a little while in spite of the clustermuff, or at least to see if they can build on the rather good premise and make Sanpeita a little less generic and terrible. I can’t turn my back on a big band OP anyway.

I highly enjoyed what little of the manga I read but for some reason this episode was unable to hold my attention… maybe I’m just too groggy/sick to make sense of things not supposed to make sense right now.
