Kemeko Deluxe! #02 — Sayonara Zetsubou Tamako

October 11th, 2008

Somebody working on Kemeko likes Shaft.

Impressions:

Ugh. The first minute and a half was completely reused footage, so including the opening, 3 minutes of stuff we’ve seen before (or will see in the episode). It’s the second episode, why would you do that!? Oh wait, nooooooow I see… it’s because they blew the budget on the first episode. There were two extended scenes during this episode of staring at the same shot for over 30 seconds… and the first one was actually closer to two full minutes. At least they made the chaos sound entertaining then. There were horse neighs and operatic warbling, but still… second episode and already going to cost cutting mode? That’s tremendously disappointing. The rest of the episode was okay, but it’s hard not to be when you’re skipping animating almost 4 minutes of the episode.

Nowhere near as much fun as the first episode, and I put most of that on Tamako’s shoulders. Until she snaps (complete with Zetsubou Sensei images), she’s just a rather boring character and one of a billion other "oniichan tebaa!" sisters, as Hinano has been putting it lately… completely devoted to her family and destined to be really whiny until her brother bangs her. Wait… not a porn game adaptation. Hrm… until Kemeko bangs her. The fanservice was toned down this episode, though we did get a shot of Tamako’s panties and training bra. They bond and make up at the end, and the rocket crashes right back into the house and we’re right back where we started at the end of it. At least there’s more violence next week.

Sorry for the pretty LQ caps. I’ve gotten cleverer in my quest to find speedy raws, but they often veer towards the "not so good quality."

Tamako’s friends want to go out and play, but she excuses herself because she has to go home and make dinner for her family. They’re all amazed at how much of an adult she is. After they run off, Tamako goes grocery shopping, gets mugged by old ladies trying to buy meat, and runs into Izumi on her way home. Izumi just sort of awkwardly blushes at her and thinks about fainting on top of Sanpeita.

At home, her mother and editor are hard at work and becoming slightly delirious, so Tamako just trots off to the kitchen like a good little girl. Sanpeita lurks around to make sure nobody’s noticed anything yet.

In his room, Kemeko’s got a huge water tank going with all sorts of tubes attached to herself. The tank drains and Kemeko pops out, all shiny and new. She does some warmup exercises until Sanpeita hushes her up and demands that she talk to him for real. She glares at him for a long while, and then pops the top and comes out.

Downstairs, Tamako happily prepares curry.

Sanpeita stutters his way through trying to ask if Kemeko is the girl in the photo, but she sense an evil presence and shoots out the window, taking the photo with it. She rushes out, but just sees a cat. Sanpeita starts yelling at her, so she retreats back to the Kemeko-bot for some justice posing. Downstairs, Tamako hears the commotion and starts to get nervous.

She hops around anxiously downstairs while Sanpeita and Kemeko argue, and imagines all sorts of horrible things happening to her dear brother. She fetches a frying pan and prepares to save him.

Upstairs, Sanpeita yells at her for destroying his photo. She tells him that she’s not anybody he knew from 10 years ago and that their enemy is the Mishima corp outside. She hops back into her bot and beckons Sanpeita to bed with her. He tries to kick her out. Just then, Tamako breaks in and sees her brother trying to… assault Kemeko in bed.

Tamako looks around the room and sees the broken glass, the broken ceiling, and Kemeko and starts to snap. He tries to foist it off on Kemeko, but she just sits there. In a slew of Itoshiki imagery, Tamako snaps and attacks Sanpeita. Kemeko immediately jumps up and gets ready to fight back, but Sanpeita stops her. Tamako keeps coming and raises her frying pan to deliver more abuse.

She keeps attacking and Sanpeita manages to get caught in the middle of the blows.

Downstairs, their mom and her editor just keep working through all the noise and chaos echoing through the house. For almost two straight minutes. *sigh*

After that’s finished, Tamako has the other two cowering in a closet. Sanpeita tries to make Kemeko explain things, but she won’t. Tamako finally breaks down the closet door and Sanpeita attempts to worm his way to safety with her in hot pursuit.

Elsewhere, Izumi thinks about Kemeko kissing Sanpeita. Whoopie.

On the roof, Kouichi and Rena Tamako and Sanpeita have a showdown. In tears, she starts yelling at him about all the things she gave up to take care of him, hanging out with friends, having a boyfriend, prostituting herself, the works. She attacks him again, but hits Kemeko’s rocket. It sparks, and then ignites. The entire thing turns over and blasts off, carrying Tamako with it.

Sanpeita manages to grab her hand, but he just gets carried up and onward as well. Kemeko’s apparently flying the blasted thing. Sanpeita and Tamako have a little apology moment before he tries to climb up her to get somewhere a little more secure. In the process, he grabs her shirt and nearly pulls it off of her. She starts thrashing around, sending them both falling to the ground below.

Luckily, Kemeko swoops out of nowhere and catches them both. She safely lands (dropping Sanpeita on his head) and then delivers some Japanese quote on the importance of siblings. Tamako apologizes to Sanpeita and says that he even looked kind of cool when he tried to rescue her. He blushes, and then hops around in pain when she kicks him in the shins for being an idiot anyway.

Tamako trots over to Kemeko and begs her to become Tamako’s sister. Kemeko accepts and Tamako does a little dance of joy. Sanpeita’s stunned as Tamako runs back to the kitchen, but he’s glad that the rocket’s at least out of his room. The rocket then crashes right back into the house.

Inside, the family sits down to curry. Their mother is still fairly delirious so she takes Kemeko more or less in stride and we get to look at the house for the last 30 seconds of the episode.

Preview:

I’ve got it bad, I’ve got it bad, I’ve got it bad… I’m hot for teacher.
