Seriously, that carbonara looked rancid.

Impressions:

Really not the most terribly interesting of episodes. Felli’s violent streak was the beam of sunshine as always, while Mei was annoyingly present through most of it. I’ve never really liked the way this show shades noses, but it seemed worse than normal this week, or maybe Mei just has a huge schnoz. More of Layfon not wanting to fight then changing his mind, more of Nina yelling at him for not wanting to/having a reason to fight, and more bad Engrish. It’s seriously reached the lingual equivilent of the uncanny valley here. I think I understand the Japanese more than that arrythmic, poorly pronounced mess. The dogs with human heads on their sides don’t help matters either. Layfon did bust out a new trick with his strings, which are now a part of his magical stick thingy (their name escaping me at the moment). I want to see him take on the interdimensional dude, or at least somebody near his skill level so we have a better baseline than "so very very much better than Nina."

There’s probably something to be said about Layfon just letting Nina and the others go off to their deaths while he moped around town, but given how worthless their weapons seemed to be, I’m not even certain what their plan was in the first place. If Layfon could barely survive outside the barrier to take out the queen, they were just going to be fighting an endless horde of the potato bugs with twigs. I certainly can’t fault Layfon for trying to convince them that they’re going into a battle they have no chance of winning. Then again, I have to wonder how this city has survived at all if a swarm of potato bugs is more than a match for its star soldiers.
