Asura Cryin’ #02 — The Bonds of Reasoning

April 9th, 2009

Just what this show needed, some  fishbowling old man with a spiral fetish.

Impressions:

*sigh* After ending last episode with a muck mecha coming out of a suitcase, I didnt expect this episode to open by having Tomo wake up in bed with Kurosaki (and Misao too I suppose), along with all manner of cheesecake shots for both of them. It was still better than the crazy old man I guess. Misao also seems more obsessed with Takatsuki’s enormous chest than Tomo does.

This honestly wasn’t the most elucidating episode, and while it did feel a bit better focused than the previous, it was also filled with a lot more irriting exposition. Takatsuki is the daughter of the mafia boss, although they’re not really on the best of terms. Shes also a bit thickheaded and gets upset over the ‘devilish’ powers. That doofus priest is the student president too, which is very quickly approaching ridiculousness. Hes got his own ghost too which becomes his Asura Machine, so it’s hardly a leap to assume that Misao is the same for Tomo (which was already heavily implied anyway), although she was ‘killed’ this episode. I can’t imagine ghosts remain dead for long. Speaking of which, Tomo needs to stop being surprised every time somebody says that they can see Misao. More foreshadowing about a ruined world etc etc.

Well, I guess I’ll stick with it for now as a late Wednesday/early Thursday swing show. I’m really not digging all the unexplained things or how they keep piling more stuff on. Nor how they just completely bypassed the cliffhanger from last week. Or maybe I won’t. Meh.

10 Shouts From the Peanut Gallery

  • Irie says:

Looks like this episode is building the supporting cast. I’m not a big mecha fan but it wasn’t used too often to really consider this a mecha anime. The show is does feel like a harem comedy. I like the supernatural type shows so it seems like good harmless fun.

It looks like we are dealing with three competing groups. The president (white), the mafia (black) and the supernatural club girl (unknown). Not really sure what they are after. I thought it might be the mech.

    Yawn…

  • Newprimus says:

The mecha in the first and this ep was a bit of a surprise. Kinda weird seeing one of those in a show I thought was more about supernatural.

PS: Takatsuki’s boing is quite lovely.

  • Hinano says:

this show is weaksauce I’m dropping it

  • Who’s the other ghost?

  • Aroduc says:

Judging by the picture on his desk, probably his sister.

  • nanoha says:

I wouldnt go by what the blogger says he/she’s always got a negative view on every anime he/she watches and blog’s so I go baised on how I feel the show is good and judge for myself. ^_^

  • neir says:

Be fair. Tomo made fantastic noises when he rolled down the hill.

  • shio says:

Ahah, I thought they were going to go Matrix-style with the bullet as it approached Takatsuki’s hand, but I love how she just caught it.

The action scenes near the end were all fairly high quality. I hope it keeps up.
