Oh boy… a flashback episode!
Really, Satelight? Really? We’re going to randomly toss in some Qfy amnesia as an excuse to blow an entire episode on a flashback and then reset it at the end? You’ve got to be kidding me. I really wanted to see both of them stripped of their powers and gibbering like imbeciles for an entire episode. "GTOOOOH? WHASSAT?" "HOTTO DOGGU?" "We can be ES Members!? ZOMG." And then they became magic partners and started glowing whenever they touched. Just shoot me now. There was a moment where I could actually see the back of my skull because my eyes rolled back so far.
So this episode was pretty much a waste. It’s amazing to me that they’re apparently going to drag the G-Society stuff out for the entire bloody show’s run. I’m glad that they’re dangerous and all, but the fact the only thing that has kept them from killing the entire cast at this point is how lazy they are. That’s not a good place for the story to be. They haven’t even ever offered up any kind of excuse for it either. Instead, Ascouer and Qfy just go off on random adventures to beach planets or flashback laden trips to various places while G-Society twiddles their thumbs in the background. Wait, no, my mistake. If the preview is to be believed, then next week will be 20 minutes of Tuxedo Mask and Ascouer staring at each other in the graveyard.
As loathe as I am to dump a series halfway into it, if Hidden God is at least marginally entertaining this week, I think I’d so rather pick that up for Thursdays and maybe check in on this only when it does something that doesn’t suck.
A preview consisting of three frames? How promising.
