Arakawa Under the Bridge #03 — Shooting Star
April 18th, 2010
Q: "Do you ever have no idea what to title a post?" A: Yes.
Impressions:
I’m still trying to figure out what I want to do with Sundays, but this episode didn’t make much of a case for sticking with Arakawa. The first ten minutes may just as well have been called "Star-head makes a ton of faces." Granted, it’s a nice change of pace from listening to Kamiya shriek like a stuck pig, but it was still far from enjoyable. The content also had a lot to do with it. Everything up to the ED was just them talking about dates. I’ve seen every single one of these cliched overwrought jokes before, usually in sequences that aren’t two men and a man-nun sitting in a room simply stating them.
The second half was’t too much better since it was just another one of those "girl doesn’t understand dates" sequences that are requisite for every terrible alien/magical girlfriend show ever made… only without any real animation and lasting 10 minutes instead of one. At least the post-ED sequence was amusing, particularly Koyasu’s moderately traumatizing one man nun play. Aside from that though, I barely cracked a smile, so this is probably the last you’ll hear from me about this one.
