Shin Koihime Musou OT #11 — By The Way, GOLEMS!

June 9th, 2010

Did the Japanese writer’s guild go on strike this season?

Impressions:

Seriously, this season has been beyond lousy for writing. The first half of this episode was okay, and the fight between Zhang Liao and Guan Yu was certainly well enough done, although painfully cliched, but the second half of the episode had them basically toss everything in the crapper and spawn a totally new threat about Koyasu raising the Terracotta Army to go rampage around…and can only be stopped by some magical dragon sword that we totally have no idea where it is at all. None. No magic swords here. Just these fine leather jackets.

It’s not like Ryuubi knows how to use a weapon anyway. Her plan is probably going to just end up being taking her top off to distract Koyasu. Sure, he looks even more fabulous than Dracula with his blood red chalice, lounging on a sofa carried by a bunch of clay golems, but he’s Koyasu. He gets more trim than a curtain salesman during a Labor Day sale. Okay, I think that analogy got away from me. Regardless, the fight was really the only high point of the episode itself, although Cao Cao’s eyecatch after the episode is all kinds of… notable, shall we say.

Ryuubi, what in God’s name are you doing?

10 Shouts From the Peanut Gallery

  • Fate says:

Have you ever written fiction? I would like to read it to see what you actually consider to be excellent. I agree this show isn’t great but what is great anime?

  • Jack Damn says:

    Ahem.

I fully agree with you that the writing this season is sub-par, but in defense of this show I’ll just say that the writing has been heinous for the past two seasons as well.

In other words: this show has been poorly written from the start. The only thing that has changed in the third season is the animation has gone from Flintstones quality to Jetsons quality.

And if there’s a season four (highly likely), I’m sure the writing will suck as well. I mean, season two had them singing at their enemies and talking about not being able to pinch a loaf for a month.

This show seems to be about highly saturated bubble headed characters, female empowerment, nefarious (and obese) guys and cute chibi moments that make little sense.

An actually cohesive plot is like fifth on the list and well below “here’s a buck kid…go get me a pack of smokes.”.

Oh and Ryuubi with the butterfly mask in the preview…hahahah…I knew it.

    • Aroduc says:

Even for this show though, the sudden jump to an army of clay golems was completely out of absolutely nowhere. It would have made at least enough sense for sufficient suspension of disbelief if Koyasu just suddenly had an army, but… eh.

Anyway, the point is, it jumped from bad to horrible over the span of an interstitial.

  • shadow says:

and more ot it shoujo with yuri and ecchi, is a shit

  • Fate says:

I just want to know what aroduc thinks is a good show.

    • Aroduc says:

      Final Fantasy Unlimited.

After watching it, everything else turns to roses and sunbeams.

  • antonio says:

little girls with breast of a adult, and semi nude
are a good show for the pedofiles.

  • Solaris says:

I read today the first Aroduc’s post about Koihime musou. I’m pretty amazed how far you reached with this show after you blasted it off the at the very first episode >_<". I'm not surprised by this kind of behaviour, knowing how much you like to tease shows like this.
On a side note, I still don't understand why people is so angry about this anime. Every blog i read just blasted it off as the worse anime ever made.
I find this show pretty honest as it doesn't pretend to be nothing more than the wacky comedy it is. Doesn't it deliver some pretty light entertenment? Does it fail in it? This anime is just about sillyness and fanservice.
Why everybody expect it to be serious and stuff? Must every anime coming from the 3 Kingdoms be serious matter?
Why not just change the concept for once and make some good laugh at that? What's so wrong about it?
