Shin Koihime Musou OT #12 — The Grand Plan
June 16th, 2010
Choun’s a naughty naughty girl.
Impressions:
Thus it ends. Not with a bang. Not with a whimper. With this.
That was only slightly more painful than I imagined, but they did put together a valid final strategy. Since the real Ryuubi is obviously too inept to get anything right, distract Koyasu with a stand-in, complete with fake sword, and then stab him in the back. I don’t think that’s going to go down in the record books as one of the more heroic ways to defeat your enemy, but hey, it was at least as effective as my idea of simply smothering Koyasu in her breasts. I’m amazed she even had the strength to throw her sword for that matter.
As for the bad part… well… pretty much everything else. After going through a montage of every character and their part in the elaborate scheme to charge straight at Koyasu, we then got to see… another montage of everybody charging straight at Koyasu while introducing themselves, sharing their favorite color, and other interesting ice breakers for the next time they’re at summer camp. I didn’t really expect the inanimate pottery to put up much of a fight, but Koyasu could have at least done something more impressive than sipping his wine, and flicking not-Ryuubi away from him. It’s always a sad day when any Koyasu dies, but at least I know that he’ll be back in a couple weeks as a sexual predator ninja in Basara. He really gets around the Orient these days.
Final thoughts at the bottom.
Final Impression:
The main reason I watched this was for something to do on Wednesdays, a day with absolutely nothing else going on. It filled twenty minutes in the evening, provided a few cheap laughs every now and then, and some good jokes about radioactive T&A. That’s about it. I skipped the last couple seasons, so I don’t really know how this stacks up, but eh… it killed twenty minutes once a week and while it was certainly never above mindless, it never got so bad that it physically pained me. Sure, it started at a much lower bar than, say… Princess Lover or Railgun, but it at least stuck to that and made very few overtures of being anything more than what it really was. That’s… well… not particularly laudable, but at least you know what you’re getting into. I’ve certainly watched much worse.

Little bits of yuri and lots of moe. Works for me. They wrap up the main plot in one episode, which is what I expected and like most men in this series, the main bad guy is here and gone just like that. Great show for yuri and/or moe lovers.
