Sekirei ~Pure Engagement~ #02 — Benitsubasa Vs Alexander Bell
July 11th, 2010
I think the telephone won.
Impressions:
A fairly solid episode, although there were a few niggling details. Kazehana’s wiggling ass with her… fluids… dripping down her thighs was an image that I could have done without. There was also yet more recap for a couple minutes at the start about the bridge battle, and the episode essentially ended… then everything kept going for almost a full minute after that just to show 75% of the cast standing around. They hit their cliffhanger about a minute early and then clearly had absolutely no idea what to do with themselves. Personally, I would have just spent another minute making fun of poor Beni.
Tsukiumi got to show off a little bit against Haihane this week, and the whole scene with Benitsubasa trying to call them was hilarious. I also appreciated Matsu trying to kill Kazehana by giving her pure ethanol etanol to drink. Silly lush. Even Minato manned up for perhaps the first time in the entire show. He not only had the balls to rough up Benitsubasa and crush the phone, but almost hilariously, the moment Beni’s back was turned, he just got up and ran. Sure, he didn’t make it very far, but that’s good initiative for someone who is typically paralyzed by the sight of panties and spends his afternoons staring at breasts with a little girl bouncing in his lap.
Brief Summary:
Kazehana’s feeling lonely and attracted to Minato, but backs off when he wakes up before asking him if he desires her. The OP interrupts the end of their conversation, so we go to breakfast instead where Matsu gives a rundown of the end of last season and reminds us about the ‘demon’ Ashikabi and the ‘Death God’ Sekirei. Cut over to those two, Shiina and Yukari and them stomping on some poor guy’s junk before calling Minato to hang out. Back at the homestead, Tsukiumi gets pissy because Misubi knows Yukari and she doesn’t. After a little heart to heart with the drunkard, Tsukiumi changes out of her french maid costume and decides to be Minato’s chaperone.
They’re interrupted when Benitsubasa and Haihane attack. Haihane distracts Tsukiumi while Beni drags off Minato and uses his cellphone to call the house. Kusano picks up the phone and is baffled by the orders to put the "big boobed woman" on, as well as the prospect of counting up to 88, and ends up hanging up. Drunky gets the phone next, but has no idea who Benitsubasa is and just hangs up again. Beni calls a third time and makes Minato talk to Matsu, but Minato knocks the phone out of her hand and crushes it before much of anything gets communicated. Matsu starts tracking them down while Kazehana goes flying off. Minato tries to escape, but Beni’s right there. Before she can punish him, Drunky shows up with a fresh bottle of liquor, but Haihane pops up and takes Minato hostage.

I’ll just quote the preview itself… "Kazehana getto da ze!"

I really have no idea what they are trying to accomplish here. The Disciplinary Squad don’t play this much of a role in the manga, and Kazehana’s winging felt pretty damn contrived. Oh well, in any case, wonder if that’s because they felt the first season lacked a reliable villian?
