The Legend of the Legendary Heroes #06 — Clap, Clap, Clap

August 5th, 2010

If only every bout of expositional diarrhea ended with a punch to the face.

Impressions:

An almost completely Sion-centered episode, and I’ve already made my feelings on his politcal intrigue plotline abundantly clear. Right now, he’s just playing puppet master with all his pawns to try to cover up the fact that his side of the plot doesn’t have… a plot. Things happen, but aside from defeating some mostly nameless amorphous crowd of nobles who can be conjured up at the drop of a hat, he’s just spinning his wheels. He really needs some central figure to focus on instead of a seemingly endless parade of characters that appear and then disappear every week to provide some direction and impetus to his entire little non-story.

The brief fight between Prince Clown and the decent protagonists was okay, but not that impressive, and Lyner suddenly dumping out a stream of exposition about the magical ring being one of the super-relics (whose powers include brightly shining red to call attention to it in every scene) was totally unneeded and killed the scene’s momentum entirely. No, Ferris punching him for the exposition does not forgive the fact that they had the exposition in the first place. It does mitigate it a little bit by showing that the writers were aware of how hamhanded it was, but there were still better ways to handle it. Ferris going down from the demon-thingy’s falling hand after Lyner beheaded it was also a little weird and out of nowhere. At least it looks like it’s making her start to soften up towards Lyner a little bit more. She needs to fight in her sports bra and spandex shorts more too. I choose to not question where the fantasy world got the lycra.

Preview:

Delusions and dragons.

Wow, this is really like “diet” Berserk
Hopefully, it won’t have the same unfinished anime ending.

  • Aex says:

Captions 74 and 75… Wtf?? A romantic moment?? Where did that come from?! Very interesting….

  • Jack Damn says:

I don’t like Xellos,ah, I mean the guy with the purple hair and feathered shirt…Miran Froaude. It’s pretty obvious he’s an a-hole.

I have to agree with something you wrote in your review of the previous episode: so much potential is wasted in this show by focusing on the political crap. The political back-biting is flat out b-o-r-i-n-g.

More swords, more magic, more exploration. Less kings, politics and Xellos rip-offs.
