Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz…
This was another pre-airing special for the upcoming OVA to be released in November I believe. I’m not even sure that this is the full episode 1 since they’re still almost three months from actually selling it.
Impressions:
I almost just gave this a pass entirely since it’s out of my strike zone by a mile or two, but since it was only 12 minutes long, I figured a quick look wouldn’t hurt. So, it’s yet another show about a clumsy girl hanging out with her friends. And she makes lots of silly faces. And that’s about it. This is totally unique and I have never ever seen anything like it ever before. It even has a strange looking pet. That makes it extra super double unique. Okay, I’m being a little two-faced here since execution is really everything, but there’s not a lot to say about that either. This was about as by-the-books as it can possibly get.
I probably never will understand these kinds of shows. If the goal is atmosphere and music that slowly lulls you to sleep, then great. I’ll take it over Nyquil. Based on what other shows in this general genre are popular though, I may as well go down the checklist. "Protagonist is clumsy," "Protagonist has a mundane hobby," "Protagonist is socially awkward," "Nothing happens." Okay. Everything seems to be in order. Therefore, it is an amazing triumph and tour de force of modern synergy of the epiphany for self juxtaposed with the supine ennui of existence. Who knows. I am naught but a lonely traveller in a strange land filled with cats that look more cotton than animal. At least it’s not as heavy handed and insultingly cloying as some things I could name, but at the end of it, I still felt like I had basically dozed through the entire episode.
