Black Lagoon #26 — Rock’s Junior Detective League

October 1st, 2010

Oh boy! Rock looking at maps!

Impressions:

Ugh. This entire episode was spent having characters try to piece together where Roberta has disappeared to. Because what I think of when people talk about Black Lagoon is Rock scribbling over his walls like a madman and crappy detective stories. In the final seconds, Rock screams out "That’s the last piece of the puzzle!" and they all go driving off to actually do something. Oh yeah, and they went shopping before that. Hell, after the intro scene, Rebby simply vanished from the show for the next 30 minutes. Then they played light jazz at me during Balalaika’s scene, letting me know that she wasn’t going to be doing squat either. Light jazz.

Maybe there’s more like last time. I forget what the exact deal was there, but as far as this broadcast goes, it kind of blew. A lot. Cheap, slow, and tedious with only a trace of crazy or action at all. I do not give a rip about whatever giant web of intrigue you have made up on the spot. I doubt anybody does. You do not get to have crazy drugged up maids, chainsaw assassins, and the third reich running around and also get to be a political mystery thriller. If that’s not a codified law somewhere, I’m making it one.

I also cannot be the only one who thinks that Rock is a giant jackass. He goes into Rebby’s room to watch her workout. Stares at her butt, and leaves ash all over her bed. He must be making her some kind of otherworldly omelet for her to put up with this crap, if you know what I mean. That’s right. Cheese, ham, and bacon.

    I Bet Rock’s a virgin..

I bet Rock is scared of his own genitals.

To be fair, if the only women I dealt with were Revvy, Balalaika and Roberta, I would be conditioned against sex too. Your genitals would be in serious danger there.

    Bacon too? No way!
