And I totally didn’t make a pussy joke! …Crap.

Impressions:

This show is at its best when it is being out and out bizarre. Like Captain Strippy flouncing around in class, or the girls having an impromptu mushroom hunt/BBQ using their desk in the middle of class. Those parts are genuinely amusing. Not so much the spanking, but the joke there may have been how intently other girls were watching that with stars in their eyes. The rest of it is… okay I guess, but little more than your average pseudo-magical girl riff, just without generic recycled transformation sequences. It’s not terrible, but it doesn’t feel like they’ve been able to put all the pieces together and figured out just what they want this show to be yet.

Anyway, this was a Cordelia episode, notable for being the only one of the four with an actual female’s name. She wants everybody to be happy again, then after being jerks to her, they find a cat, everybody bonds, cat steals food, Cordy takes the fall, yada yada, they eat the cat. No comment regarding the series gag of random things continuously flying into Cordelia’s mouth. At least nobody’s really angsty about getting treated like crap for having lost their powers. The whole over-the-top destitution thing almost has echoes of BakaTest’s jokes too. Like I said though, they’re not quite there. They need to play up the humorous side of things more and the vapid childish stuff less.

I’m still not sure what my plans are for Thursdays yet, but it’ll probably come down to this or Shiki. Given the former’s track record, I’m currently leaning towards this, but I’m giving Shiki at least today. After the three week break and that godawful episode it had before its hiatus, I’m not sure it has much of a chance though. That’s not really meant as an endorsement of this (yet), just my fatigue with Shiki’s completely haphazard writing and poor production.
