Freezing #02 — Random Acts of Censorship
January 14th, 2011
I literally have no idea what I am (not) seeing there.
Impressions:
Meh. They’re not even trying with these characters. Bridget’s personality is a blushing ditzy airhead whenever Kazuya is within 5 feet and Kazuya continues to have daydreams about his sister in nothing but panties while harassing the girl who had her eye gouged out because of him. At least she continued to have fewer than five lines an episode. Plus, the production took a huge drop in just about every way this week. Most of the fight scene was like watching some random cheap RPG stock animation attacks. Toss up speedlines or some other kind of flashy background, have the character swing their weapon around, then cut away to the other character getting hit by invisible things from off-screen. Great. We’ve downgraded to Dragon Warrior.
It also didn’t help that after the long long intro to the world last week intermixed with all the random violence this went basically nowhere. They spent multiple minutes having Squinty whisper to Kazuya about how much trouble Bridget was before she stumbled into the scene on the shiniest CG bus I’ve seen in awhile and Ganessa picked a fight with her. The two of them spent more time posturing than actually doing anything though. The animators did amusingly forget to draw Bridget’s blade a few times, so there was that to chuckle about at least. Well, and Kazuya getting backhanded, causing blood to somehow splatter upwards a few feet onto Bridget without actually causing any harm to him. The physics of Freezing continue to be a strange and unwieldy beast.

Subtle, Freezing. Real subtle.

This is about as good as the manga. Or as bad. Either way it works.
Wow at that last image in the preview. It is hard to tell if it’s censoring his face or it’s actually something emitting light.
