Galaxy Angel: Moonlit Lovers

February 27th, 2011

Seduce women, kill aliens. Again.

Well, I’ve been done translating it for almost a month, but it took awhile to get all the rest of the ducks in a row. So anyway, here’s the second of the three parts in the Galaxy Angel trilogy. I’m sure there are still a few minor issues left, but other than a little polish here and there, it’s about as done as it’s going to be.

All further updates will be found here. And of course, it’s practically tradition at this point that there’s some kind of horrible error found as soon as I make a post like this so… well… yeah.

Nothing really special to say here. If you haven’t, I suggest playing the prequel first since this follows directly off of it. I did slip a little bit from the schedule I was shooting for because I got slammed with final projects last term and spent the usually slow finals weeks working my tail off on other things, but all in all, about five months in total isn’t half bad. Special thanks to all the editors who helped polish it and especially AoDnightshade for dealing with most of the image editing. I will admit that Moonlit Lovers is probably the weakest of the three games. It has a huge upgrade in graphics and difficulty from GA1 and there’s a lot more variation on each route in terms of story (about double the lines each), but the script’s approximately the same size, so with 6 routes, well, do the math yourself.

As for finishing off the trilogy, like GA to ML, I’d rather work on something else first just because half a year of GA tends to burn one out. I’ve already started working on the game I’d like to, but since the company that makes the game is known for being a little… defensive… shall we say, I don’t really want to actually announce it. It’s not really about keeping it a secret so much as throwing up enough of a smokescreen to avoid potential headaches. I’m sure astute people can figure it out. It’s a great game with a tremendously fun engine with the only real downside being that both the main two leads are pretty weak. It’s actually kind of funny to look at character popularity polls for it since said female lead ranks basically dead last every time. At least the MC leans towards the Mary Sue perverted jackass end of the spectrum instead of the Mary Sue spineless weakling. They’re also almost the only two people in the game not named after vegetation. Coincidence? I think not.

Most everything can already be (de/re)compiled without issue at the moment, but there’s one game crashing problem still remaining. The scripts look like this, with the label/CJmp routines being the root of the problem. They’re not set to a line but to some kind of address within the script although after some experimentation, I’m not really certain what. If you alter the script in any meaningful way, every time it tries to jump to a point after a said change, it’ll hit the wrong spot and usually crash. Everything works perfectly aside from that (game plays perfectly fine from the start of a script to the first Jump), although there’s a huge opportunity to be had from importing the PS2 version’s much awesomer media files, which includes an all-star VA cast and semi-extra route, should anybody have a burning desire to extract things out of Interchannel’s packs. If you know of any hackers who’d be willing to help, please send them my way. I’ve already done most of the first chapter (which isn’t that long) but I’m loathe to go too much further if this is something that’s not going to be fixable.

So that’s that. Better late than never, and I don’t even count it as that late. Go kill some aliens and/or figure out that scripting stuff. I’m going to enjoy the last day of sunshine here before the blizzard hits tonight that will turn into torrential floods for the rest of the week.
