Yozakura Quartet ~Sea of Stars~ #02 — A Mouthful
April 9th, 2011
I don’t think crashing planes into monsters is very politically correct.
Impressions:
I have mixed feelings about this episode. They did a great job with both Rin attacking Kyosuke and Hime, as well as Kotoha’s fight with Zakuro, but there was really no weight to the scenes. The music in particuar hampered them a lot. It wasn’t Merry-level bad, but the atmosphere didn’t fit at all. Some of it was a bit silly too, particularly Kotoha’s giant hammer sort of tapping a hand away, but for the most part, it looked pretty good. A completely different kind of action from this week’s Dog Days, but also fine.
There was also some really weird and clumsy attempts to add backstory after Zakuro had been nuked… but before she was nuked a second time. She took Rin in and sheltered her, then turned out to be insane and obsessive then… yada yada… something happened off screen that we don’t know… and Rin ended up in the city, but now wants to go back to live with the evil crazy obsessed woman. Uh, okay. I think they were trying to add depth to Zakuro before Enjin nuked her and turned her full-on crazy, but she was already fairly insane to begin with and crazy is not an empathetic character trait.
…And now to wait until September for the third one.

Pretty and pleasant, but overall fluffy and pointless; kind of like cotton candy. At least that’s my take on it. Actually, how did you feel about it contrasting this to #1?
