Mission-E #05 — S0my vs Panozomick

August 4th, 2008

This episode had so many silly fake company names.

Impressions:

So, things got a bit interesting towards the end, but most of the episode was just Chinami and Maori roaming around Osaka playing Abbott and Costello, or boke and tsukkomi if you’d prefer. Maori almost made a friend. Apparently her dog is supposed to be some kind of lab. That’s the ugliest lab I’ve ever seen. Then Maori’s Power Ranger watch rang and she had to blow off her new dogfriend to go rescue a Type-E woman sending out distress calls named Akane. They don’t make all too much of a secret that Akane’s evil, if her name is even Akane, what with all the covered eyes and shots of her grinning evilly, so the attack at the end was just a bit forecast, but whatever. I wonder if she’s from Code-E or something, and that’s why they didn’t show her face until after she drugged up poor Maori. *shrug*

It didn’t seem like she’s working with the Organization either, or at the very least, the grunt level people seemed to have no clue about her and what was going on. A third, more evil group would be fine in the Mission-Eiverse too. It’s not like the Organization itself has done anything particularly evil thus far, just a couple cases of attempted kidnapping and the one guy going nutso with the shotgun in the forest. I mean, hell… they clearly know where Chinami’s group is doing their research and getting their supersuits from. If they were serious about taking them down, I don’t think it’d be too tough. A group could actually be trying to use them as… I don’t know… evil bat

It was still a relatively amusing episode, just not a ton happened, and the only plot development was telegraphed to hell and back. Watching Chinami set off the natural disaster protection system by ECMing an entire highway was pretty funny, though I wonder what kind of electrical goggles turn opaque when they turn off. Silly future goggles. I also got a few kicks out of trying to ID all the characters in the cosplay dressing room that Maori used to switch into her power suit (complete with electric guitar changing music). I recognize at least Ink, Komugi, (S/M)ion, Valkyrie, Akari (I think), and a couple generic maids that could be from any number of things.

Preview:

Maori doesn’t look happy to be tied up with a knife wielding crazy. Chinami runs around town too.
