I’d watch it.

Impressions:

Well, as far as athletic festival episodes go, this one was pretty run of the mill, only shorter than most. You had every possible cliche that I’ve come to expect from an anime athletics festival episode, the bizarre opening speech, someone in a cheerleader outfit, people wondering why they chant a certain phrase while doing an event, someone being a terrible runner, the takeover of the announcer’s chair, someone dominating the cavalry battle, a misunderstanding on the obstacle course, and at least one innovative idea to win at an event that backfires. Not that the first episode was bad by any means, just very very formulaic.

The second half was a little more unpredictible and it seemed like they were trying to fit in as much Shaftness as possible, while also being really lazy about it. While the girls were watching their Itoshiki and Behoimi based anime, the dinner Hiro made on the table randomly shifted into various things at each scene change, though it was usually a varying number of pig heads. I’m sure that’s a reference to something but damned if I know what. Likewise, there was a brief interlude where the girls became silhouettes with their names written over their faces and they talked through the kanji that was on their mouth.

I would like to make a special note that Hiro dominated her events, as expected. She didn’t even hesitate to use her assets (ha HA! assets) to butt bump the competitors out of the way during musical chairs. Now that she’s shown her superiority in culinary and athletic contests, all we need is a definitive modelling shoot and we can put to rest these silly thoughts that the other girls might be better than her.
