School Rumble 3rd Term #02 — I’m Not in Denial

This was great!

Impressions:

The animation was awesome. The art was awesome and vastly improved from the previous episode. There were almost no speedlines to be seen anywhere, and everything wrapped up nicely without resorting to any kind of horrible amnesia device to accomplish… whatever the hell it was that they wanted to accomplish. Best of all, they didn’t end it all with a big pie fight. There were no loose ends at all and they stuck right to everything that made School Rumble popular. The only bad part of the episode was when Eri (clearly the worst character) beat Harima silly for trampling all over her feelings for the last… how many years has this masterpiece been going on? Five? Anyway, it certainly would have been lame to have watched Harima do the same to Tenma. That girl’s just too smart for her own good and doesn’t need to be bludgeoned senseless with a rusty bat.

Thusly does the School Rumble anime adaptation end. It sure will be sad to see them go the way of Seven of Seven, Love Love, and Final Fantasy Unlimited, all truly awesome shows dead before their time.

    So they took out the “Eri has to get married” chapter? Damn it, that’s where they should’ve ended the anime instead of going for the Pie End of the manga. :P

    Megaman0, I remember when SR was a great series, and it makes the collapse of the second season and these OVAs all the sadder.

    The end of the manga was pretty terrible too, really dark and serious and way too much Tenma.

    Hiyono: If they wanted to end it as a serious story, they could’ve ended with Harima and Eri confronting each other again… instead of going ‘a few years later, everyone cosplays in their old uniforms and go to America’… which took all the character development away, by returning them to the situation they were in at the start of the series.

    And School Rumble Z… I’m not impressed so far. It’s like the alternate universe chapters (like the hot spring) but without the funny.

    I wish the mangaka would’ve just ended the manga reasonably instead of… whatever the hell he was aiming for with the pie ending. Maybe to set up material for SRZ? But that begs the question of what the point of ending SR was in the first place.

    Really now, it’s like he was so close to an Eri end, but at the last second he changed his mind and just threw this shit at us with a smile that said “dont hate me”.
