Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha StrikerS #20 – Due Versus Some Brains

August 12th, 2007

TSAB was run by brains in jars? Are you shitting me?

Impressions:

Yawn. What a fairly lame episode. Lots and lots and lots of talking. We finally get to see Due, which makes me wonder who the hell Regius’ secretary is and why she’s so evil. Maybe Due can shapeshift in addition to being a Japanese female Wolverine. At least next episode will be full of explosions and fightings.

But seriously. Brains? Where the hell did that even come from? And if they were just going to be killed before actually doing anything… why? That was the most one sided fight since Ali faced an eighty-foot tall mechanical Joe Frazier. Frankly, I’m happy with the fall of the known TSAB if that’s what was in charge. Now the stage is set for a Chrono-spinoff where he’ll take over the world with his Riot 6 harem.

Caps to be updated as usual Blerg. All updated.

Summary:

Jail Scaglietti, man of the world and breeder of android harem, now with his battleship finishes taking off to the church and TSAB’s horror. As Schach reports in, Carim looks at a sealed package on her desk.

On the Asura, Hayate and Carim are having a meeting with Chrono to decide what to do about the Cradle. Chrono has an entire fleet standing by, ready to take action.

The Numbers are deployed all over the place as Euno gives them their orders. Everybody is chatting on about things when Scaglietti interrupts them to give us the legend of the Holy Emperor and how the power is different from Belka and the TSAB’s magic etc etc. The DNA from him was what was used to create Vivio. Nove says that the Holy Emperor is one of them. Sein has a question about what and why they’re doing this though. Jail responds that they’re descended from the studies and research headed by Regius in the past and that he’s responsible for the development of the androids and research into the relics for the purposes of justice.

Sein has more questions, but Jail tells them to hold off for later when the world is their’s. Sein and Wendi don’t really fully understand the doctor, but they’re willing to throw themselves in anyway. Something Jail told them about the Sei-Oh suddenly sticks out suspicisiously to Sein though.

Back to the mysterious TSAB chamber and mysterious voices talking about the fake mages and what to do about them. We finally get to see who was talking… three brains in jars.

Yes.

Brains in fucking jars.

They discuss their silly crapola for a little bit before bringing up Zest. Then an assistant comes in. She apologizes for disturbing them as they tell her what they know about Regius, Zest and Lutecia while she inputs something on a keypad. She then looks up and says that they’ve given her all the information she needs.

One of the older admirals is giving her own talk about the Holy Emperor to Chrono. The information gets passed on to Riot 6 as well through Hayate. The Cradle continues to menacingly hover over a city, surrounded by legions of Gadget Drones.

Nanoha says that they’re going to be splitting into three groups to deal with it and then their meeting is adjourned. Erio and Caro are worried about things, but Fate reassures them and tells them that Signum will be with them.

Rein, Signum and Caro are talking as they walk about Zest’s past and his history with Regius.

The eyecatch takes the Numbers down another notch…

As they approach the deployment point, they go over the final plans. Vita and Nanoha will be nearby the cadets if things get really rough, but Nanoha tells them to stick together and they’ll be fine. She then continues on with the pep talk and tells that they have something to protect and that she knows that they’re strong, so won’t lose and to not forget that.

She dismisses them, and they run off, except for Subaru. Vita dismisses herself and Nanoha tells her that they’ll make sure Ginga will be fine. Subaru is more worried about Nanoha and Vivio. Nanoha gives her a personal peptalk, saying that she knows Vivio will be okay and that she’s an S and won’t lose.

On Storm Raider, Teana is looking at Cross Mirage in thought when Subaru comes on, wiping away tears. Teana gives Subaru her own peptalk as well, though it has about 5% as much making out as I’d prefer.

Storm Raider takes off with Signum and Rein flying point. Vita, Fate, Nanoha and Hayate all skydive from the Asura to the target. As they do this, Carim unlocks all their limiters. They transform and Nanoha immediately goes into Exceed mode to lead the charge.

Fate’s still a bit worried though and says that she shouldn’t use her last limit break mode (assumably Blaster again like she was talking about last episode). Nanoha says the same to her, but Fate says that she’ll be fine. The two continue their lover’s quarrel about being worried for eachother while Vita and Hayate look on, feeling left out. This could have also used some making out, or at least a little heavy petting. Nanoha and Fate give eachother respec’ knuckles and then Fate peels off.

Nanoha keeps thinking and says to herself that the kiddos should be fine and are nearly A rank, and that there’s something special for them all to protect as they close in on the Cradle.

Inside the lab, Euno is reporting that everybody’s getting into position, either defending the Cradle or heading to “the mission point.” Jail is generally pleased and laughs to himself.

Back at the shadowy TSAB chamber, the glass vials are shattered by the secretary, now with giant claws. One brain is left, yelling about the betrayal as she gives the last brain a speech about destiny and the usual boring “your time is up.” She transforms into a Numbers suit and  slashes at the final brain.

Vita, Hayate and Nanoha have made contact with the Gadget Drones and are carving their way through them. Chrono looks on from his fleet.

  • Fencedude says:

Nanoha’s Limit Break Mode is called “Blaster Mode”, not Buster. Buster is Raging Heart’s standard shooting configuration.

It seems Excellion Mode was changed into EXCEED mode.

Also, Scaglietti isn’t in the Cradle, he’s still in his base, along with Uno, Tre, Sein and Sette. Quattro and Dieci are in the Cradle with Vivio.

  • AGear says:

The final stage is near, who will be the StrikerS final boss? A number, the doctor, the emperor? I think Nanoha and Teana will be in big troubles. And What will do Subaru? Betray his comrades for save Ginga or go for all against Ginga (and make the classic I don’t have nothing to lose after that? Also I see doubts in the loyalty of Sein… StrikerS near the climax!!!! :P

I know it!!! Due is working in the TSAB for Jail purposes!!! … and… Brains??? I never expected something like this. This is still a Magical Girl series? That isn’t more immoral than creating artificial mages??? Someone, please explain me that!!!

  • longhaul says:

the way nanoha and co were drawn, particularly the eyes, while they were flying twords the cradle did have a younger feel to it, but it wasnt unappealing

we still have to see wither einherjar was taken out or if it will have a play in the episodes to come as well

when they were plowing throu the drones at the end of the episode i enjoyed nanoha’s angry face after her shot, eagerly awaiting the befrending for quattro and deici

also one more character to add to the lexicon with due :D

    “Brains in fucking jars”
WTF is wrong with Nanoaha SS?

  • Fencedude says:

I honestly don’t get why everyone is acting like the brains in a jar is such a horrible travesty.

Sure, its kinda silly, but jesus, its just Nanoha, its not like its not had any number of really silly things over the last three seasons.

  • -Z- says:

the only way the brains thing is horrible is that it’s *horribly* far out of left field.

  • Aroduc says:

Pretty much that. It’s out of nowhere, serves no purpose, and then is immediately thrown away after they’ve said maybe about 20 lines total… so… what was the point?

Other than to have brains in jars.

  • Ronin8317 says:

A few notes after watching the Chinese fansub:

    * They need Vivio to activate the cradle because she is the clone of the original owner of the ‘Cradle’. The DNA sample of the original owner is stolen from the Church.

    * Jail Scaletti is also a ‘relic product’ created by the “Brains in a Jar” : Code Named ‘Unlimited Desire’. Everything that happen so far has been part of their plan – until Jail betray them.

    * Nanoha’s “prep talk” consist of telling the cadets to remember all the hardship they went through from training, and telling them “if you can withstand my training, you can take on anything” :-P

From Megami, ‘Buster Mode’ will Nanoha another costume change. I would be disappointed if Nanoha doesn’t destroy a star system or two in that mode :-P

  • DmonHiro says:

Can we PLEASE have Crono join in a fight? Any fight? Did he stick Durandal too far up his &*^*% and can’t get it out to fight with anymore?
