Oh God, it burns!

Impressions:

The 4Koma roots were really REALLY painfully obvious through this episode as it jumped around about every 15 seconds. An excess of Mikan and Sunao instead of… well… anybody else… also made this a pretty weak episode as far as the show is concerned. There were a few good moments, but a lot of that was wiped away by the terrifying male cheerleader pink and fluffy panty shots. I need some bleach for my brain.

Summary:

In the countryside, Mikan is narrating a letter to Sunao about how they’re visiting their grandmother and doing all the usual things, eating watermelon, looking at fireflies, etc. Back at home, Sunao’s finished reading the letter and his father is behind him wearing a skull.

Mikan talks with her grandmother about the boy that she likes. Yasumi can’t help but butt in though. On the train, Potemayo and Sunao’s father are doing the “Honi-o” assdance, something better left to the imagination. They reach Sunao’s mother’s grave and Sunao’s father gives it a peptalk before leaving the skull on top of it. Sunao punishes him, and his beatup appearance scares the life out of some passerbys.

Sunao and Potemayo are doing normal grave cleanup when a worm comes out. The chicken leaps off and eats it, but it’s actually immensely long and Potemayo soils herself in panic.

The Lucky Star triplets are studying, though with how hot it is, they quickly give up.

As Sunao’s dad washes off a grave, he sees that Potemayo’s pants are off and drying in the wind. Oi.

The threesome play some word games. Pizzapizzapizzapizzapizzapizzapizza!

As Sunao and crew pray, the wind creates… shall we say… a draft for the still pantsless Potemayo.

Mikan is talking with her grandmother about the first time she met her husband. She remembers back to some school races where she ended up doing word games in her mind to occupy her brain, which led to her getting distracted and running off course. As she dejectedly went back to class, she found a ‘bloody’ Sunao sleeping in his taco sauce. He says hi, and she blushed and fell in love.

The Moriyamas and their pantsless Mochi Mochi finish praying and get ready to head home.

Easter ramen and a lesson on how to split one ramen three ways from the school girls.

Sunao is thinking about buying a souveneir, but Potemayo has her own desires.

Guchuko is sitting in her tree, annoyed by the cicadas, so starts emitting a sonic scream, killing the cicada nearby, causing the dogs to bark and bringing Kyo out to yell at her.

Back at the Moriyama home, Potemayo is doing her weird TV dance. Once it finishes she runs over to Moriyama and some more incomprehensible Mochi Mochi talk and they head out to get food.

At the convenience store, they find the food salesman as usual who offers them his specially mixed ice cream, but they wander off as he’s still describing it.

Back in town from the mountains, Yasumi and Mikan run into Sunao and Potemayo. The Mochi Mochi immediately glomps Yasumi’s face, and Sunao simply says “Welcome back” to Mikan.

Sunao’s dad is at home, saying some final words to his wife’s picture when the chicken hops on his leg and then craps out the worm in one long strand.

On the B side, Potemayo is staring at the fridge. Sunao thinks it might be to try to figure out where she came from, but then her stomach rumbles and she passes out.

On the way to school, Mikan is trying to pick up Sunao again for a festival, but Yasumi butts in. A little later, all the usual bunch is invited to the festival.

At home, Sunao is setting up Potemayo to be able to function on her own, giving her a purse and money, but she has no clue.

At the festival, the first thing to scar my eyes are the panty shots of Mudo’s cheerleader club. Hairy legs, skirts and panties. *shudder* I don’t know what’s worse, that it existed, or that his body was taping the panty shots.

Recovering from that, they head into the festival proper. Potemayo immediately sees a flan and makes a play for it. It’s just a balloon though. She then sees some other food she wants and leaps at it… into a ring game where she’s won by some kid.

The schoolgirls are also there with their own random draw challenges going on with those weird “cut out a design” game things.

The crew is all sitting on a bunch relaxing when Kyo suddenly throws a dumpling into the trees. It splits before it lands. Potemayo goes to investigate and finds Guchuko contentedly eating.

The girls are all pretty inept at their designs. Two of them break their’s.

Potemayo wins a balloon yoyo, and discovers the hazards of using items with the same mass as herself.

The last girl fails the challenge of the cutout designs. Good work, team.

Random people are about to start eating treats when they’re suddenly sliced in half and then disappear. Let’s blame Guchuko, the gluttonous food thief.

Festival over (and no firework scene?) Potemayo and Sunao are sleeping. Potemayo wakes up and hops downstairs to stare at the fridge some more. She falls asleep next to it. Sunao picks her up as it starts emitting strange noises, but then sits down with his back to it and goes back to sleep.
