Clannad #01 — Sad Girls in Spring
October 4th, 2007
That just doesn’t have the same ring.
Impressions:
Blah blah blah. Clannad is pretty. Clannad is well animated blah blah blah. Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock for the past two years, you know Kyoto Animation makes really good looking shows. Honestly, since everybody, their mother, their cousins, and at least three shih tzus are going to be covering this, so there’s no need for me to as well. It looks good, it sounds good, and even though Clannad is about 18 notches higher up the ivory tower than Kanon and has some really just plain dumb arcs, KyoAni possesses a near complete inability to alter source material, so I’m sure the writing will be… well… true to the source at any rate. If Clannad is going to fall apart anywhere, it’s almost certainly going to be from trying to cover too many of the fairly seperate story arcs and the concepts that go into some of them are just plain awful. Still, so long as it remains focused and doesn’t try to do too much, it should be an excellent show. Assuming you’re not already tired of Key’s endless stream of guys healing girls’ hearts and souls at any rate.
Now go bother Totali or Omni for your “sad girls in spring” fix.
No summaries for the first episodes. I write as I watch, and I don’t know if I’ll care about a show until after the first episode.

With all the coverage for this show, it’s going to be really hard to find different things to say about it. I guess “the animation is pretty” probably isn’t going to cut it this time! Maybe I’ll flame it like Sola and School Days…
…nah, not even possible.
