Ugh… the lengths that I go to in order to fulfill my OCD completionist needs.

Impressions:

I’ve been putting off dealing with this particular… creation and was helped by it airing during my little vacation from sobriety. I actually even managed to cap it and then accidently delete it before I got around to watching it, and really, that was probably my unconscious mind trying to prevent my super-ego from having to do any work.

As I’ve said before, my problem with Kodomo no Jikan is that it skirts that line between comedy and pedophilia. You can have the little girl who thinks that she’s romantically attached to an older man, but you need to handle it correctly. Kodomo no Omocha’s relationship between Rei and Sana, for example… fine. Kojikan on the other hand… well on the other side of those uncomfortable moments in Sister Princess where you’re not quite sure if it’s touching or incestuous. Characters pause just a little bit too long after an uncomfortable situation or blush a little bit too much about brushing hands with eachother. Now just replace the incest overtones with pedophilia overtones and ramp them up about 80 notches and you’ve got Kojikan. And while I’m on a Sister Princess rant, I’m still amazed that they managed to fashion incest vibes out of a show where nobody was actually related to anybody else. That’s like some sort of zen in the normal cliche of the male lead having an uncomfortably close relationship to their half-blood sister.

Thankfully for my brain, the episode was very heavily censored, saving me the hassle of having to do it myself, though also not exactly endearing itself to me as a show about the steadfast and pure Great Teacher Lolicon dealing with the troubled lives of his students. Production values were fine. Nothing wowed me, but nothing caused me pain either. Anyway, I don’t really have too much more to say about it, and I should stop before I attempt to proselytize too much. I’ll also admit to turning on an Iosys remix of Neko Mimi Mode that Sage sent me partway through watching this to take my mind away from it.

The important thing here is that I get to put a checkmark on my big list and cross Kodomo no Jikan off it. Hooray for the list.
