Mmmmmm… mud.

Impressions:

On one hand, if you were hoping the character introduction episodes were over, tough kibbles. On the other, it was still a pretty solid, action packed episode. Addie got the screentime this week when she and Itsuki got sucked into some big magical tidal wave after she decided to directly confront Honami/Astral and after the obligatory bonding conversation, they ended up attacked by basically sentient mud which imitated her father and one of her guardian spirits. Then, as usual, Honami showed up and saved their asses. Honami also provided Itsuki with a closeup view of what lies beneath her skirt, which was completely unnecessary.

I usually like the haughty female pseudo-antagonists, but something about Addie just rubs me the wrong way. I think it’s the way that she hasn’t really shown that she deserves her attitude at all yet. Since eating the dog in the first episode, all she’s really done is float quasi-menacingly and strong arm Itsuki. A fuzzy teddy bear could strong arm Itsuki. Compared this to Honami, who has taken on a Dullahan, a swarm of birds, and provided all manner of support, or hell, even Mikan took on a god and won. Addie needs to actually do something for me to take her and Goetia seriously. I’m not even certain that she even knows exactly what Itsuki even does with that demon eye of his. Hopefully next week will be the last of the character intros with Nekoyashiki. I actually like him though, so I won’t complain. I mostly just want them to get to the Dragon storyline already.
