Prism Ark #05 — How Priecia Got Her Groove Back

Tsun <——–This Episode——–> Dere

Impressions:

Priecia makes that jump from angry/annoyed at Hyaweh to acknowledging her crush and respect for him all in one episode. They even threw in some game stuff, which makes me happy, although with the 12/13 episode run and now Fel’s friend in the mix, I have absolutely no idea how they’re going to even barely touch on that as well as the Priecia-centered plot. Let’s also not forget that Sister Hell and the ninja are both still floating around out there -somewhere.- This pacing would make so much more sense if this was a 26 episode run. I mean… hell… they just got to the first 30 seconds of the game and we’re only 5 episodes in.

Anyway, enough rambling nonsense, back to the episode. It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t terribly interesting either. The Karin/Priecia fights were lackluster and there wasn’t really much going on otherwise to keep me particularly interested. Kagura and her rice balls were funny at least and Hyaweh finally actually talked to Fel for the first time, so that’s a step forward in the direction of bringing the party together. I really could have done without the 3-4 minutes of Karin’s generic philosophical ramblings about why Priecia was sucking, especially since the two had never actually fought before. Wouldn’t it have been enough to just let Karin be a better swordsman instead of saying that Priecia had suddenly gotten awful?

We start out with Litte giving the recent history (aka, the prologue to Prism Ark). 16 years ago, Meister and Princia were travelling with her baby when they were attacked by an Angel and went missing. She notices that Hyaweh is staring off instead of paying attention to the lesson and yells at him. As he apologizes, he sees Priecia watching him from the corner of his eye, but she blushes and turns away when he looks over.

Later, Kisarov gives one of his usual speeches about combat training and using Prisms and becoming a fully licensed knight. He even holds up a license.

In the wilderness, Priecia and Karin are training her swordsmenship while her fan club, Bridget and Kagura all hide and watch. Karin knocks her down and tells her that her attacks need more spirit. Priecia gets up, retrieves her sword and tries to attack again, but gets beaten around and her sword is knocked away.

In a flashback to the girl’s bathroom, the fanclub thinks that Priecia’s heart has been weakened because of Hyaweh and Kagura. They don’t notice that Priecia is in one of the stalls. She walks out with a scowl.

Back to Karin training Priecia, she grits her teeth and grabs her sword, thinking about Hyaweh leaping through the flames to save her, and all the times that he grabbed her hands.

She yells aloud that she doesn’t need those thoughts and clumsily attacks Karin again. This time, Karin smacks her hand and slashes through her hair ribbons. Priecia falls to her knees while Karin chews her out.

Priecia tells her that she wants to protect Windland, but Karin demands to know what; the kingdom? Family? or is it all for her silly pride? Karin goes on her usual ‘pride is worthless, fight for what is important’ speech. Yelling that as long as Priecia’s head is full of nonsense, she’ll never master the sword, Karin walks off.

At school, Filia tries to light a fire without success. Hyaweh tells her to leave it to him and she offers him the matches. He refuses and holds out a Prism and tries to use The Flame of Salamander spell. His control is… lacking… and he blows up the kitchen, sending the Man Club in to complain about the food. Luckily, Filia still has a basket of potatos to cook.

The Priecia Fanclub meets again, trying to think of how to help Priecia. Fel appears the moment they say Hyaweh’s name and demands to be let in on it. They tell her that it’s Hyaweh’s fault that Priecia is preoccupied and wonder if… but then wave off their suspicions. Bridget lurks in the bushes behind their bench and comes to her own imbecilic conclusion that Hyaweh might be the princess before saying ‘nah.’

At night, Priecia tries to train, but visions of Hyaweh keep flashing through her head and she still can’t concentrate.

Speaking of the man-beef, he’s out for a midnight stroll. He’s nearly killed by a giant snowflake that falls. Fel apologizes and the two start talking.

Fel is a pretty good instinctual mage, though lacks control so far. Hyaweh tries to pull out a book to look up Fel’s technique, but she snatches it away and tells him that Prisms are something you have to feel.

She stands up on the parapet and continues, saying that magic is something that comes from the heart. She’s trying to master snow in particular. It’s beautiful and there’s a friend that she wants to show it to. Fel promised her that she’d show her one day. Hyaweh asks who the friend is, but Fel evades the question and says that she’ll keep on trying to make the snow and master it so they can see it together.

Priecia continues trying to train in her room, but she’s exhausted and still distracted. She walks out to the balcony and sees Fel and Hyaweh talking. She becomes angry and storms back inside.

Hyaweh looks at his own Prism and thinks about a promise, then runs off, telling Fel that he just remembered something.

He busts into his dorm room with the other guys and goes straight to a trunk and pulls out a dagger, saying it’s for a promise.

Elsewhere in the night, he holds up a dagger and his Prism. He hears something and sees Priecia practicing even more, but she still can’t get a full grip on her power. She hears Hyaweh breathing and attacks, but Kagura blocks her shot with an arrow and it whizzes past his face.

Priecia demands to know what he’s doing out here. She tells him that it has nothing to do with him. Kagura offers them both a giant rice ball with a fish. She then also serves them tea while they munch on their rice. Kagura has her own crab rice ball.

Hyaweh tells Priecia about the talk he had with Fel, about the promise that she made and how her Prism is going to grant her wish. Hyaweh holds up his dagger and says that there’s a promise he made on it. He then yells her that it’s something from an Angel.

Flashback to young Hyaweh and Filia playing in a field. An Angel suddenly appeared and Hyaweh leapt in front of Filia, telling her that he’ll protect her. He recklessly tried to attack and was thrown backwards and there was nothing he could do. The Angel moved to attack them, but suddenly a dagger was thrown and stabbed it in the head. The Darkness Knight rushed in and slashed up the Angel, killing it instantly. The Darkness Knight left them as mysteriously as he came, leaving only his dagger behind.

Hyaweh holds the knife, saying that he used to be powerless, but he wants to become someone who has the power to protect like that knight. Priecia smiles and says that he’s kind of like Kagura. She even smiles at Hyaweh and says that that kind of power to protect is commenadable. The two finally have a real conversation and Priecia declares that Hyaweh will be her rival from now on.

Hyaweh thanks her and runs off. Priecia turns back to her training and attacks again, this time blowing a huge hole through the waterfall. She smiles to herself and thinks that it was such a simple thing and not worth all the crap she was putting herself through. He’s not so different from her. They’re both trying to protect what’s valuable to them.

The next day, Filia continues her epic quest to light a fire.

This time, Fel shows up to help with magic, but summons a giant snowflake instead. Hyaweh swings by to give it another try with his Flame of Salamander and this time manages to light the flame with ease. He tells Fel that it’s because she reminded him of his feelings. Filia repeats the promise that Hyaweh made, to definitely protect her. Fel thinks that’s pretty cool and laughs… Filia, ever the brother-complex post child, scowls at her.

Karin sits with her creature… reciting poetry. Priecia walks up, ready for a rematch. The two sqaure off.

Priecia attacks, this time much more in control and while she can’t land a hit, Karin isn’t able to hit her with a counterattack either. The two clash, and Priecia manages to cut Karin’s hair ribbon. Karin says that she’s progressing wonderfully and is now ready to learn the Mirage Dash.

Back at school, Kisarov announces the end of the knight training crapola and there is much rejoicing in all the little teams.

In his office, he meets with Litte and Karin. They discuss Priecia’s progress and how she’s handling the pressure amongst other things. They all think that she’s about ready for their first mission and he officially stamps her knighthood document.
