Hatenkou Yuugi #01 — Razzle Dazzle

January 4th, 2008

Introductions are for chumps.

Impressions:

Well, Dazzle certainly wastes no time throwing you right into things going on. I assume there’ll be a little more exposition and this will be fleshed out a little better later. It’s certainly the best looking and animated of the new shows so far, not that it hsa much competition. The music also catches the world pretty well — very celtic themed all around. The score actually reminds me a lot of Scrapped Princess’ music, which is a relatively favorable comparison.

I will say that the voicework could use some help. Rahzel rambles on and on without direction or point much of the time and other people, the ghost in particular, just seem a little bit too dramatic for my tastes. As long as I’m talking about the characters, Alzeido is eminently boring. Dude could at least poke fun at Rahzel’s ADD a bit more. At least they’re a pretty intelligent pair. For all her motormouth rambling, she’s a pretty sharp cookie, or at least, far smarter than I expected her to be.

After one episode, I have a pretty favorable impression of it, though it’d be a strain on my Japanese to keep up with Rahzel, so I’m not sure I’d be able to do full summaries even if I wanted to. Still, since there’s nothing else on Fridays, I’ll probably hang with this one for at least a little while longer even if the second episode is full of awfulness. It could stand to be a little more dynamic in areas aside from what are essentially monologues from Rahzel, but it still somehow managed to beat out shows about S-CLASS VAMPIRES and snakes eviscerating people for the best animated action sequence of the new season thus far. I’m not sure I’m sold on the general plot, but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t want to see more. I also rather fancy the OP for that matter. Bring on more Dazzle, says I.

Awesome thank youus<3 I adore the manga and I think the anime [though changed several of the mangas aspects] is still awesome<3 I also agree with the points you’ve made. Overall if this anime is anything like the manga, it’ll rock<3
