They Are My Noble Masters #01 — Kenichi Rides Again!

January 5th, 2008

Oh Tomokazu Seki… what are you doing here?

Impressions:

This was actually quite a bit better than I expected, though as Rosario was to panty shots, Kimiaru is to jiggling breasts, at least while Mihato is on the screen. At least things made them move. I have no idea why Mihato was hiding a camera or food in her cleavage, but I can accept that her chest would shake like a bowl of jell-o when she yanked it out.

It’s almost impossible to talk about this one without the Hayate comparisons, so let’s just say that the premises are nigh identical, only without the rampant parodies, with a manly lead, a team of supermaids, and a bevy of women instead of a loli, so really, it’s not like Hayate at all and closer to something like Hanaukyo Maid Team, should you feel the need to narrow mindedly pigeonhole it somewhere in the ‘vast’ range of maid-based anime. I actually do like Ren quite a bit, though Tomokazu Seki really needs to develop some depth. I had to keep fighting back the belief that I was watching the bizarre parallel dimension Kenichi where he’s training to become Ryouzanpaku’s maid. Even his somewhat excessive affection for his sister was pretty subtly and well handled with a short shot of the domestic violence which was apparently what drove them to run away. A light touch like that is so rare in anime, that I have to give it props for that at least.

Production values were fine. Nothing amazing, but little pained me either. Mihato and Ren are the champs of the show so far and it really does help to have charismatic leads. It’s still something of a fanservicey slopfest, but as far as fanservicey slopfests go, I’m pretty impressed with it so far.

4 Shouts From the Peanut Gallery

  • Mentar says:

You’ll see – the star of the show will be Shinra. Ren will be in for a wild ride ^_^

  • Hemisphere says:

    Oh, yes! It’s finally out!

Thank god for the writer of the eroge directing it himself.

  • Aroduc says:

He’s not actually directing it, though he is heavily involved.

  • Hemisphere says:

I stand corrected then, thanks for clearing that up! Him being involved would at least make the show better than how Tsuyokiss fared, or ended up for that matter.
