Rental Magica #13 — The Harry Potter Chronicles

January 6th, 2008

Now play Quidditch!

Impressions:

Adilicia and Honami’s past together at magic school. It’s about as exciting as it sounds. Addie’s the genius summoner in the ‘normal’ magic stuff, while Honami is mocked for being off in her own little world. Addie beats up the punks who mocked Honami, but the two remain more rivals than friends. Then they end up teamed together as partners for a test in a ‘haunted’ mansion. Addie effortlessly takes down the things that attack her until her overconfidence trips her up and she unleashes holy hell on the area. She lets herself start being pulled in by the corruption, but Honami saves her and uses the lost Celtic magic to dispel the miasma. That’s how they became friends, finishes Addie in the present to Kuroha and Itsuki. Honami chases the two off to chew out Addie a little bit.

The theatrical Rental Magica background scoring was in full effect this week. They really could export this directly to the next Harry Potter movie or the like. It’s still not bad, but I’ll never shake the feeling that it doesn’t quite feel right either. While we’re talking about the music, the OP was back to the original Japanese too. It wasn’t the most exciting episode, but it wasn’t that bad either. A nice, if uneventful segue back into Rental Magica after the holiday break.
