Minami-ke Okawari #02 — Gang Bossing 101

January 13th, 2008

Stop saying banchou!

Impressions:

This was kind of weird. After the last episode definitely feeling different from the first season, this one felt like asread modified their style to more closely match Doumu’s. It was still decently done, but it still felt a bit weird. All the weird facial art made its return, as did Chiaki’s ‘dopey’ eyes. Thankfully, they retained the contours of their mouths, so asread didn’t quite revert all the way. The shifts in style also don’t feel nearly as weird when the art is that much better. Or maybe I’m just a little insane. Both options are probably equally likely. Asread did an especially good job with the shading on this episode.

Good god, what is wrong with me? Why am I noticing the shading in a comedy show? Anyway, the comedy remained more or less the same. Hosaka even got to make an appearance. The gang boss jokes and the "Kana Army" were rather entertaining, though dragged on a little bit. Poor poor Fujioka… at least he’s getting positive attention… well… for a broad definition of positive at least. Poor dude was repromoted to gang boss at the end too. One day, dude… one day you’ll find your true glory.

4 Shouts From the Peanut Gallery

  • Shinji103 says:

Hmmm, I actually like the way the characters look in this studio’s work better than the previous studio.

  • The middle girls seems to be, um, “blooming”.

  • Danny Choo says:

Still prefer the previous studios artwork. But EP2 seems to be better than EP1?

  • Kikaifan says:

Is the silhouette girl in 70 supposed to be a parody of Utena’s Shadow-Puppet Chorus or what?
