F O E F O E F O E F O E

April 21st, 2007

Iosys’ new creation is… frightening.

I really have little else to add to it that isn’t already conveyed by the scary scary video.

By the by, the song is the battle music from the upcoming (at least in the US) DS RPG Etrian Odyssey.

As for what F O E stands for… in Japan… Field On Enemy. In the US, Foedus Obrepit Errabundus, take your pick as to which you prefer. They’re basically nasty NASTY mini-bosses though.

SUPER LATE EDIT:
The translated lyrics:

Walking straight ahead I meet an FOE.
There’s an orange thing here, FOE.
Oh no, it’s noticed us! FOE!
We’re out of TP. FOE!
We’re in the middle of fighting a boss and there’s an FOE! (Get lost!)
The paladin has died! FOE!

“What is going on here?! My party got wiped because of an FOE!”

The numbers are increasing… FOE.
I made a mistake navigating… FOE.
They’re reviving… FOEs!
I forgot to buy some Warp Strings… FOE!

FOE! FOE! FOE! FOE…!

There’s a horn sticking out… FOE.
Ouch, that curse really hurts… FOE.
I open a door and there’s an FOE!
Every 3 days a new FOE!
“Onii-chan! Get away, that’s an FOE!”
Aniki and I… body build! (Cho Aniki reference)

“Well, isn’t this FOE in high spirits.”

(This verse is mostly injokes about Iosys’ other videos)
Saitama, Saitama, FOE. (2chan reference)
“Eirin, Eirin” FOE! (Eirin means forest management)
Gossun Gossun FOE. (Hitting the voodoo doll.)
Doman seman FOE. (Exorcising.)

“Hahahaha! I’ve added another monster to my encounter list!”
“And it’s none other than an FOE.”

    GOSUN GOSUN FOE!

    Scary, but still win XD

  • Gyth says:

Oh god… the paladin isn’t allowed to die. ever. everybody else breaks in half like balsa wood when they take hits that won’t even make a pally flinch

  • Anonymous says:

Wow after playing and beating Etrian Odyssey I must say this video is a very accurate representation of FOE and the fear sometimes involved with them.

  • Anonymous says:

Oddly addicting. It reminds me of the time I forgot warp wires and faced off against FOEs after FOEs and died.

  • Anonymous says:

Its always fun, at least for the first time you play, when you walk down to a new floor, fight an orange FOE, and realize its 15 levels higher than you expected.

  • Haruna says:

XD OMG THIS VIDEO SO OWNS.

It feels like this doesn’t only happen in Etrian Odeyssy, though.

It reminds me of the time when I was a noob on Ragnarok Online and I was in Payon Dungeon. You can be really good on the first floor, and then go to the second floor, and it takes you all of five seconds to realize that you’re at least 10 levels too early for that.

Or in Dark Cloud 2, when you clear a room and go to the next and get one-hit as soon as you walk in.

  • Kaasil says:

Ragnarok Online isn’t THAT hard.. you just need to research monsters and know what gives you better experience.. apparently you can’t reach 99 on Mi Gaos alone.. T_T

I play on the Loki server, and I think the players are more dangerous than any monster.

  • Ukiki says:

OH WILLIES THAT IS SO TRUE! *laughing on the floor* Paladin: It noticed us! *FOE turns red* Paladin: OH DAMN! Medic: NO TP! XD *wonders where the Alchemist is*
The true fear of a FOE is much greater than exploring the labyrinth. Once you finally figured out what that path lead you, are cornered by a FOE. And the way to the upper floor is WAY on the other side. :O
Loved the deer part. Ragelope!! *squee* REN AND TLACHTGA ARE THE GREATEST! >.

  • Tathar says:

Reminds me of Horizons: Empire of Istaria. There’s named monsters that sure seem to fit the description of FOE. They’re usually only about 5-10 levels higher than the other similar monsters, but they’re much tougher than their level indicates.
