Gunslinger Girl -Il Teatrino- #03 — Speedlines… Ho!

Why… just… why?

Impressions:

My enthusiasm for this series took a serious hit this episode; the fight between Triela and Pinocchio was just that terrible. Everything was done in slow motion with speedlines all over the place. I guess it could have been worse. They could have self-narrated their attacks and then flashed back to their training in the middle of it, but this isn’t a Shonen Jump series. Alright, I apologize, that was a low blow. Regardless of how much worse it could have been, it was still very very poorly done. It took them over a minute to go through maybe five blows. Some shows go through that much in a couple of seconds… without speedlines all over the place either.

I’m really not quite sure what else to say. This stuck very very closely to the manga, at least as far as I can remember, and given the languorous pace this is really starting to strike me as just a serviceable adaptation of the manga –  no more, no less.  Hopefully they’ll do a bit of a better job with the showdown between Triela and Pinocchio, but we’re past the honeymoon stage, so I’m not sure whether to hold out hope for it or not. Hopefully they won’t pull more of this speedline/bullettime nonsense at least. Yes yes, it’s a nice effect… in moderation. Severe moderation. Let’s at least not have another fight done completely in it at least. Please?

I love Triela. We finally get to see her sad and vunerable and it kills me. I hate Pinnochio!! >_<
