Shakugan no Shana II #17 — Seeya, Eita
February 7th, 2008
Good riddance.
Impressions:
Well, on the downside… it was a really really boring Eita/Satou episode. On the upside, at least in theory there will never be any more Eita episodes now that he’s bowed out of the picutre. Basically, Eita decides to give up his cellphone talisman and blow off Margery and the life of monster hunting in order to pursue Ogata while Satou reaffirms his desire to fight monsters and reaffirms his desire to join Outlaw, an organization of humans dedicated to supporting Flame Hazes. There’s some general exposition from Wilhelmina and Margery along with more shots of Yuji training and Wilhelmina explaining that Pheles saved her from being killed by Sabrac, but an episode where Eita and Satou receive top billing can only go so far. The production quality for this episode was also all over the place. Shots of Yuji’s face swaying back and forth were supposed to be ‘action’ during the training or something. I’m not certain… it made me seasick mostly. I did notice that the transition into the new ED was also pretty nicely done, and when I start praising how the episode ended, you know that I’m reaching.
Yuji is getting a lot more serious in his training, so there’s that much at least…. not that I’d ever think he was becoming some kind of dark snake-based overlord or anything no siree. I will be completely shocked if/when anything like that ever happens. Completely shocked. He even managed to disarm Shana at one point, though was as shocked as everybody else and didn’t block the kick aimed at his chest right after. At least the preview for the next episode is promising… showing the beasties that Yuji is fighting in the new OP. With Yoshida and Eita’s whininess out of the way, we can hopefully go back to the action and setting people on fire. I look forward to seeing Yuji actually fight for the first time in some 40 odd episodes.
Preview:
The League of Extraordinary Denizens comes to town.

Not exactly exciting, but still important nonetheless. At least we’ve reached the point where everyone seems to decided on something that will at least change the story one way or another.
And it’s nice to see that kick from Shana-Her Tsundere-ness is back.
