There were two closeups on boobs before they even showed the OP, let alone anybody’s face. Even when it was being ‘wholesome,’ the camera was angled a couple inches away from being directly up some random girl’s skirt half the time. Even Lala’s costume is basically designed around the chest and ass, complete with daisy dukes to accentuate her butt under a tiny skirt that’s open at the crotch. I’m trying to imagine a way it could have been more sexualized, but aside from giant arrows pointing to the ‘hot zones’ or just cutting away the skintight fabric, I’m not sure if it’s possible.

It’s actually not all that bad, but I’m pretty confident that it’ll get there. The humor is flat and painfully predictible, the fanservice is a constant barrage, and the main character is about as spineless and uninteresting as they come, along with more or less the same premise and character archetypes that we’ve seen a billion times over. The production values are decent, but nothing to write home about… though I don’t really care for the OP or ED either. I guess the vocal work was alright, but honestly, after the first ten minutes, I turned down the volume here so I could hear Dwight (The Office) say "The eyes are the groin of the head," and from there my attention never really fully returned to To Love-ru.

So, in short, at least as far as the first episode goes, it won’t give you cancer, but if you’ve seen any of Girls Bravo, DearS, Ninomiya, Maburaho, Green Green, Tonagura, etc etc… then you’ve already seen this… only done better. If you’re in love with those and can’t get any more of the shameless breasts chucked in your face and jokes telegraphed minutes away, then I guess you’ll be right at home. I really doubt I’ll keep up with this, especially with xxxHOLiC on tap already for Thursdays. Totali seems taken with it for reasons I don’t fully understand though, so go poke at him for coverage I guess.
