Monochrome Factor #01 — Mmmmmmmm Yaoi

Impressions:

For all the visually shoujo themed shows thus far, there actually hasn’t been a ton of yaoi. Monochrome Factor is here to bring on the manliplocks though. A kiss from a goth man wearing lipstick transforms you into a coursair. Who would have guessed it?

This show is cheap. Very very cheap. Very very very cheap. Well, the budget is still higher than, say… Zombie Loan, but every single action screen is still on a solid color background with speedlines and minimal animation. The background art is sometimes only half drawn too… well… same with the foreground art on a few occasions as well. There’s actually not -all- that much yaoi kissing, but such things sort of overwhelm and encompass all else. If Akira wanted nothing to do with Shirogane, it’d be easier to stomach, but he blushes and acts all coquettishly so… well… be prepared for manlove, even if one of them is dolled up like a French tart.

I don’t have too much else to say. I wondered for a long time why they hauled an entire drumset up to the roof to practice… and how they got electricity for the guitars up there, but such questions I’m sure will never be answered. All the rest of the production qualities were pretty average all around; nothing to vaunt, nothing to complain about. *shrug* I’m quickly running out of things to say. Yarrrrrrrrrr buccaneers?

    What’s really amusing is that apparently the manga isn’t BL in the slightest. ^^;;

    Junjo Romantica is going to be the winner in this department, though… and it looks like it might be more than just cheap lol fodder. We’ll see.

    Don’t forget Nabari no Oh. It’s not BL, like Monochrome, but it has one very… intense pairing. o.o

    I’m following this because it has roughly the same staff as Loveless. Apparently, I’m not the only one – I get the feeling that Mono is trying a bit too hard to imitate Loveless. I hope it’ll get better, tho’.

    And Daisuke Ono’s Akira bothers me o_O

    I was wondering why no one else was covering the show until I watched and I was like WTF GHEY XD..

    I’m surprised you covered it though..lol should I guess you’ll say a few words about Buttsecks Romantica too?

    That’s going to happen when you use the same director from Loveless. I’ll hold out for Juunjou Romantica.

    Is the Spring season revenge for all the yuri shows that came out last year? Not that I’m complaining…

    I was wondering too.
    Hey, I like the art and style of MF. Couldn’t really tell that it’s cheap. o.O If it’s the same director of Loveless, then I don’t think it’s cheap at all. Although I do have to say that Shirogane is way toooo girly, and what’s up with the lipstick? I know he didn’t have that in the manga. But I still like him. haha

    Monochrome factor is not only BL, by the way, it’s only Shounen-ai here, not Yaoi (that’d be sex)… There is more action and magic and such stuff and I think the show is WAY better than Loveless…
    C’mon Loveless is ugly… (-´_<)
