Absolutely Lovely Children #02 — Doesn’t Contain a Penis Drill
April 12th, 2008
And that’s a damn tragedy.
Out of curiosity, would you guys prefer I keep capping/writing using the live stream, complete with its relatively poor quality and quick summaries/impressions or actually wait for a real rip for better caps and a more comprehensive summary? I think I like this way for now (I’m a slave to consistent schedules), especially since waiting for a rip could delay things until the morning, which is always annoying, but *shrug*. Just curious.
Impressions:
Well, there are only two things that can top penis lasers, and one of them is a penis drill, so it’s inevitable that this episode would be a bit of a letdown from the first. On the other hand, if it did have a penis drill, then there would be absolutely nothing at all but disappointment ahead. It still wasn’t that bad of an episode, but nowhere near as much fun as the first. Too much of the start was spent introducing every single character that may at some point have something to do with the good guy side. The Children didn’t even appear until there was a plane about to drop on a gas station. They saved the pilot and forgot about the plane, getting everybody hurt and destroying the city block (requisite violence quota fulfilled!)
and the main ‘fight’ or whatever you want to call it was Kaoru’s powers going berserk. After Minamoto put himself above her, she declared that she didn’t want anybody else to be hurt and stopped her heart. It was a pretty nicely done little scene, but it’s just no substitue for penis lasers. Any villain would have worked better too. I guess with a bunch of psychics running around, you have to do a "power out of control" episode eventually, but that doesn’t mean I have to like it. Especially if you just have them go berserk on themselves instead of on nearby enemies.

Where’s the evil squirrel guy? I liked him.

Whoa. They are mixing chapters and introducing characters earlier (no big problem, since the manga is rather “episodic”). The shuffle also makes difficult to guess when “the squirrel guy” is going to make his official entrance.
I for one, don’t care about the quality of the caps; as long as they show more or less what is going on, everything is fine. And about the summary, I think that, most of the time, ZKC doesn’t lend itself for detailed summaries.
