Absolutely Lovely Children #05 — Robot High

May 4th, 2008

Meh. Whatever.

Impressions:

I don’t know… I just wasn’t feeling it this episode. Maybe it’s because last week’s was so good, or because I watched this one in the morning instead of my usual late night viewing, but I was pretty bored all the way through it. I grinned at Naomi’s new training; keeping calm while being surrounded by cardboard cutouts of Tanizaki. I also did like the little montage they did of all the Esper departments fighting against the mini-robot invasion, but otherwise… eh… it was light on humor, light on action, and heavy on very watered down drama. At least it wasn’t that overblown, but I’m getting just a bit tired of the "espers are humans too!" diatribe. Hell, the girls should be as well. Every single villain except Muscle Okama has used it against them. Alright… so… that only amounts to two villains and one ex-handler, but my point still holds.

Next week should be a return to the fun comedy at least. Solid Snake Minamoto will be in a stealth suit and watching the girls for their first day at school. I can only imagine the lawsuits if people actually snuck around elementary schools in stealth suits.

Quick Summary:

We start with the girls anxious and annoyed in a sham classroom of animated dolls. Kaoru gets pissed off and blows up one of her classmates.

Flashback to a day or two ago. Minamoto saw the girls sadly watching other kids go to school, and after being rebuffed by the Chief, drafted a plan to let them have a happy school life. After getting them all psyched up for it, we end up at the start of the episode, which was supposed to be their test. They failed. They start arguing, but suddenly a cyber-terrorist attack cuts all power and the robots go haywire, attacking everybody in the building. After about five minutes of frantic running around, they finally bring the counter measures online. Squirrelboy is in the building too and dissolves one of the robots.

Minamoto figures out that the terrorist was after the simulation data for all the espers and will be escaping on BABEL-1 (the chopper). The girls easily bring him down since he’s a normal. There’s the usual name calling while the espers look shocked. Then Minamoto and the Chief scream defiance that they’re still humans/girls/whatever and headlocks are applied. Sakaki reminds Minamoto to not patronize the girls and they tell him that they know they can behave if in a school environment for reals yo.
