Absolutely Lovely Children #06 — Snake! SNAKE!? SNAAAAAAAAAAKE!!!!!
May 10th, 2008
This is a sneaking mission. Do not get caught under any circumstances.
Impressions:
I haven’t forgotten about Kyouran Kazoku Nikki, the raw is just taking a long time to show up. Probably related to the arrests of a group of cappers a day or two ago. Oh well. *shrug* It’ll show up when it shows up.
Another rather fun episode featuring the girls’ first day at school and Kaoru’s new rival, the esper-hating Tohno. I am so very very tempted to make Tsukihime jokes now, but I’ll hold myself back. Aside from all the silly facial expressions the girls made (Shiho in particular was in rare form this episode), the star of the show was Minamoto in his stealth suit, spying on the girls and making sure nothing went wrong. The invisible man wandering through school provided multiple laughs, from him accidentally leveling some kid running around, to him perched on the top of a supply cupboard.
I’m not really too thrilled about Chisato or Tohno as characters. Neither are particularly interesting or unique, especially to the world. Tohno’s already pretty much over his esper hatred anyway, and I’m not even certain what the point of Chisato is. Let’s stick with Doubleface for our telepathic esper fun. The preview for the next episode showed no school shots at all though, so it looks like we’ll probably mostly be sticking to the BABEL stuff, at least I hope. If the advertisements shown during the episode are any indication, we should also be hitting the evil organization soon too. There was a commercial for PANDRA, the evil organization that Muscle Okama and Kyosuke (the squirrel guy) are a part of. Things have still be moving nicely along, but I’d love some actual extended drama and a real plot. Not to mention, the more espers, the better.
Quick Summary:
Minamoto packs the girls up and makes them promise to be good before shipping them off to their first day of school. That’s not enough insurance though, so BABEL outfits him in a stealth suit to spy on them, along with giving him a pair of guns. One a tranq for espers if he needs to deal with one of them… namely Kaoru, and the other because… you know… ninajs in stealth suits should be packing heat.
The girls immediately run into trouble when classmate Chisato recognizes their limiters. No big deal though, Chisato’s a level 2 telepath. They lie and claim to be level 2s as well. Unfortunately, the big dog of the class, Tohno, despises espers. He and Kaoru quickly get into it, and then an eraser comes flying at his head out of nowhere. Eveyrbody assumes that it’s Kaoru and Tohno pushes her against the wall. She starts powering up to blast him away while Minamoto pulls his gun and prays for her to stop, and his mental cries reach her or something and she just gets back into a stomping and yelling match with Tohno.
Come gym class, Kaoru and Tohno get into it again, attempting to kill eachother during dodgeball. Chisato explains that Tohno wasn’t always like this. They used to be really good friends. She told him one day that she was a telepath, but he said he didn’t care. She then read his mind and picked out that he was telling the truth and he thought Chisato was Chisato. She then told her mother about it and it got back to Tohno, who was pissed off that she didn’t trust him and has been like this ever since.
Kaoru falls down, and Tohno moves in for the kill, but is suddenly rooted to the ground. Minamoto is watching closely this time, and sees that Tohno’s foot is being held by somebody else in a stealthsuit. He fires a few bullets at them (shooting in a school playground, Minamoto… really?) forcing them to retreat and letting Tohno/Kaoru continue their dodgeball competition. We transition from afternoon to sunset somehow, and school ends. The two have worked it out between eachother through physical violence. Afterwards, Chisato apologizes to Tohno, but he just says that she shouldn’t worry about something small like that and walks off.
Minamoto’s got the other guy pinned on the roof and calls in the girls. They arrive after he gets his helmet shot off and suit deactivated, so it looks like he’s squirming in mid air as he wrestles the other guy. The three make short work of the other person, and it’s revealed to be the Chief… protecting Kaoru from the evil evil Tohno. First day of school was a success, hugs all around and a psychic dodge ball attack for Minamoto.
