Kyouran Kazoku Nikki #11 — Delicious Loli, It Must be Consumed

What is with this show and speech impediments?

Impressions:

Yes, I’m calling an Osakan accent a speech impediment. That, combined with the Gebok’s fast talking made this episode the usual clustermuff of stopping and rewinding every 30 seconds to actually puzzle out what people were saying. That montage about five minutes in was probably the most relaxing thing about KKN to date.

It was still a pretty good episode, though we once again got the TRAGIC PAST AND FAMILY IS GOOD speeches. I swear, sooner or later we’re going to find out that Ginka was abused, Teika ran away from a zoo where he was abused, and Gekka is actually an escaped slave from a jellyfish cult or something. God help us if anybody has any kind of past that doesn’t involve a dark and terrible secret.

It wasn’t one of the more comedic episodes, but at least it didn’t physically cause me pain like last week’s episode. I did enjoy the family repeatedly trying to keep Kyouka from screwing up Hyouka’s new friendship as well as Hyouka eating Yuka. That’s the kind of comedy that I miss in this show. I’m not certain I could survive an army of mini-Kyouka’s though. Hopefully they’ll never be seen again.

Brief Summary:

After being chased around by Gebok, one of Hyouka’s creators, Hyouka ends up getting thrown into a bakery where he crashes into a girl, Takanashi, who Hyouka spends most of the episode calling Musume (girl). As he becomes friends with her (featuring friendship montage!) he starts flashing back to when he was being conditioned to fight. The family meanwhile, tries to prevent Kyouka from interfering.

That doesn’t work for too long though as Kyouka has developed a tiny army that she controls using her cellphone ESP and uses it to glomp/force Hyouka into a little game. After a little confessing from Hyouka and attempted kissing from Yuka, Yuka gets eaten… and spit out.

After the family helps Hyouka and Takanashi escape, Gebok confronts them again, sending the memories flooding back. They trained Hyouka to kill by making him kill a human to escape his suffering… Takanashi’s sister. Takanashi runs off as Hyouka attacks Gebok.

After a lot of moping, Kyouka delivers one of Hyouka’s torn up apologies to Takanashi and the two reconcile before Takanashi decides to leave town in order to find happiness. Hyouka calls her by her name as she goes.

Close but not quite. Ginka (based on a quick scan of volume 1-4) was never abused, nor was Teika, but they do have messed-up pasts (Ginka’s sob story connected to his gender-confusion). Gekka is pretty much the only one with a big question mark to her past (what Kyouka said about her being a mysterious jellyfish is actually on the mark).
