IkkiTousen – Great Guardians #05 — Everybody vs Some Sharks

This is what we’re reduced to? Fighting sharks?

Impressions:

Are we done with these fluff episodes yet? Thankfully, the preview seems to indicate that we are. Not that this episode was particularly horrible, but I miss having a plot and there being any kind of focus to the show. At least Kann-u’s lesbian lust was pretty much completely muted this episode despite Ryuubi wandering around in (Chouhi’s) bikini. I do question why they had to fight sharks just off the coast of a public beach, let alone massive sharks that are apparently patrolling the shallows of a lagoon. I’m no marine biologist, but I’m pretty sure that’s not right.

There’s really not a ton else to say. The Kann-u/Ryofu drama literally lasted all of 20 seconds before Sonken and Ryuubi convinced them to hug and make up. I’m still waiting for Sonken to do something besides stand around looking cute and quoting Sun Tzu. She’s got to have some kind of hidden power going on here. Even Koukin’s a fighter. I refuse to believe that she’s totally worthless. Maybe they’re just saving her up to get ‘corrupted’ by the witchy woman (who I didn’t recognize at all, though was expecting her to be Kaku… maybe it’s supposed to be Teni with Shiba-I’s spirit or something… whatever) and forced to fight Hakufu. That might be kind of nice.

Anyway, next week is the grand return of Kakouton and it looks like things are finally actually starting to move with the story since Myosai is roaming around as well. Hopefully that means that the writers got all of this nonsense out of their system and we can get some real assicking. For those of you keeping track at home, Saji’s character (Zuo Ci) was one of Cao Cao’s personal antagonists, so I’m pretty sure absolutely nothing good can come of him consorting with Cao Cao’s former subordinates.

They somehow transported to the park for Ryomou to yell at Saji for vanishing. Saji’s mostly just staring at Ryofu. Ryomou demands to know what he’s been up to, but as she pouts, Saji stuffs his hand down Ryofu’s shirt. She moans of course, but doesn’t stop him. Ryomou grabs his hand and Ryofu collapses. Saji reverses the grip and pulls her close. At that moment, Saji’s cell rings and he walks around the fountain to take the call. Ryofu recognizes it/him. He disappears on the other side of the fountain.

Some time later, the Ryos are on a train. Ryofu tries to ask Ryomou about Saji, but Ryomou’s not really in a talking mood. She thinks about it and changes her mind. She tells him that Saji’s real name is Ouin Shishi. Ryofu senses there’s something more, but doesn’t want to press her.

At the beach, Hakufu tries to run into the ocean, but Koukin holds her at bay by her hair.

They’ve got work to do at the local restaurant. After checking it, Koukin wanders the beaches where various women immediately attempt to seduce him. Sonken works as a waitress while Hakufu just bakes in the sun over the grill. She finally loses it and starts hallucinating that she’s the grilled corn, so throws off her clothes and revels in her bikini.

There’s a crash inside. The ruffians eying Sonken are causing problems, so Hakufu spikes one in the face with corn. Sonken tells Hakufu about being groped by the guy and that’s why the noodles ended up on his head. He tries to pass it off as skinship, but Hakufu’s not biting. The guy starts eying her up instead as he cracks his fists. Hakufu’s ready for a fight though.

Koukin comes back to see a scene of destruction and the manager throwing Hakufu out.

Now free from resposabilities, Hakufu stretches to go swimming while Koukin pouts. Sonken points out that Hakufu’s already charged into the ocean. There’s no helping it, so they all start screwing around… until Hakufu’s stomach rumbles.

Unfortunately, Sonken didn’t bring any lunch, and Koukin expected to have money from their job, so they’ve got no cash either. Luckily, as these things go, there’s a bikini contest in progress. Kann-u’s the winner and the rest of Seito is in attendance. Chouhi’s in a school swimsuit because Ryuubi forgot her own. It doesn’t even fit her right. Koumei offers Chouhi her extra one. I’m pretty sure that one won’t even come close to fitting. So that’s why they entered the contest, to buy a new bikini.

Back in the present, Kann-u is being groped by Hakufu who is falling apart from hunger.

Now well fed, but with Chouhi still in her crappy swimsuit, the Seito and Nanyou troops hang out. Koukin gets buried for calling Hakufu an idiot. It does give him a perfect view of all the female flesh around and he just sort of… watches… until Hakufu starts pounding on him some more.

The Ryos recognize Hakufu’s destruction and wonder where she ran off to. Ryomou knows that it shouldn’t be hard to find her.

They’re playing some beach volleyball. Sonken and Hakufu vs Chouhi and Ryuubi. Kann-u asks Koukin’s buried head about Sonken, but he doesn’t have much to say. Koumei finds buried treasure next to her sand castle. Antics and such.

Inside Koumei’s box is a strange map. Hakufu spazzes out about it in Koukin’s general direction, but he’s napping. And still buried.

At the destroyed restaurant, Ryofu is getting harassed by the same thugs as before. One gropes her from behind, so gets the corn treatment again.

Ryomou gives the second a straightshot to the gut. They lament that it’s just like that other massively breasted girl. Ryomou demands to know where that girl ran off to.

Koumei finishes her sand statue. Chou-un keeps sunbathing.

Apparently the ‘treasure map’ has led the rest into a nearby cave. It’s pretty beautiful looking, but there’s no treasure. Hakufu chases Koukin in deeper after he calls her an idiot again. Sonken and Ryuubi got seperated from the group somehow while they were looking at a pond.

The rest of the group notices that the two are missing as well.

Koumei naps. Sonken and Ryuubi exit the cave into a lagoon. Sonken compliments Ryuubi’s bathing suit.

As they search for the missing two, Chouhi falls into a deep pit of water.

Sonken soaks in the lagoon and wonders where they are. Sharks circle underneath them. Meanwhile, the rest of the gang finds a "DANGER: SHARKS" sign in the cave.

Ryuubi screams as the sharks close in. She barely manages to pull Sonken to safety, but the tide’s come in and the cave is flooded. The two take refuge on top of it as the sharks circle.

Chou-un takes off her sunglasses and rushes off and into the ocean. As she lans, the sharks all turn to her. She kills a couple of them and stands on their corpses to take on the others. Sonsaku and Kann-u leap out of the cave as a massive shark attacks the two helpless girls. They both kick it away, but it’s not finished yet.

Ryomou leaps over them and finishes it with a chi blast, leaving Ryofu in a little dinghy.

As the sun sets, everybody is at the little lagoon area. Kann-u notices Ryofu, but tells herself that it can’t be. The massive shark suddenly wakes up and attacks. It knocks the others away and is about to land on Ryofu, but she instinctually raises her hand and blasts it away. Kann-u rethinks her previous conclusion.

Back at the beach, Kann-u confronts Ryomou about Ryofu. Ryomou protects her charge, but Kann-u still wants an answer, which means it’s time for the obligatory Sun Tzu quote. Thanks, Sonken.

Ryuubi helps talk Kann-u down as well. Hakufu grabs Kann-u and Ryofu’s hands and hugs them both.

Going back to the map, they never really figured it out. Ryofu looks at her hand.

At a school, Saji introduces himself… both of himselves to Myosai. The fortuneteller/hooded woman lands behind Myosai and grins as her eyes glow.

kanu vs ryofu issue resolved liked that. how unsatisfying. ,meawhile kanu who a lot has looked up to as one of the strongest since her first appearance in the aime has been resolved to be looking like a perfect ten with a perfect tan rather than the warrior goddess! she could not even take care of one shark on her own!
i want the mighty kanu back!! at least they left chou-un alone as she was. about 8 more eps to go. i hope it gets better and that they also save some show time for seito or else they better come up with a fourth season lol.
