Sekirei #03 — Immodest Fighting

July 16th, 2008

That wasn’t very nice, Musubi.

Impressions:

The story’s still moving at a mile a minute, which is a very good thing, though I am feeling a bit overwhelmed as the average characters introduced per episode is still at around five or six. This time around, we got Seo (Hikari and Hibiki’s ashikabi), a proper introduction for Kusano, Akitsu (the ice user), and I suppose Yomi counts, though she was taken down pretty easily by Musubi. We also get to see how exactly a sekirei ‘beats’ another, by dissolving the sekirei mark on their body. Hopefully none of them have the mark on their inner thighs or this will get creepy sexy creepy fast. Seo seems like a generic enough fellow though. Given that Hibiki and Hikari are pretty much the Biggs and Wedge of Sekirei thus far, I can’t imagine him having too much on an impact on most events, but who knows. They actually turned out to be relatively nice people too, if you forget the whole "team up to go after the weaklings" thing.

I did think that the fireball/icewall exchange towards the end between Homura and Akitsu was just shamefully done. They literally looped about 3 seconds of animation a couple times. Otherwise, the action was pretty well done. Certainly not impressive, but Seven Arcs is at least making an effort to keep things interesting. If they ever get around to having an action scene that lasts more than 15 seconds, I have high hopes that it’ll be great.

Briefish Summary:

While being taken somewhere safe, Kusano was attacked and tried to forcibly serve an ashikabi. In her panic, her power ran out of control.

After waking up, Musubi and Minato see Miya practicing with her sword in the yard, so Musubi leaps down to spar with her. It’s extremely one-sided and Miya tells her to control her movements and ‘flow’ better.

At his job, a coworker, Seo, mooches food off of Minato. Turns out that he’s the master of Hikari and Hibiki, who bring his lunch and give Minato some bread as thanks. As the job finishes up, everything gets shut down because there’s some rich guy’s company moving it. Seo knows it has to do with the ‘Green Girl’ in the area, and has Hibiki and Hikari attack the vans before they run into the crazy jungle where the Green Girl is hiding. Minato has another vision of Kusano, pointing him in a direction. Homura arrives shortly after to protect the Green Girl from Yomi, a sekirei with a scythe, but another sekirei, Akitsu, stops him and lets her run into the forest.

Minato and Seo talk about being ashikabi and such as they walk, but Yomi makes it to Kusano first. Sensing that, Minato rushes to her and tackles/gropes Yomi just in time. After zapping Yomi once, Seo holds back his girls because Musubi’s arrived, and she promptly snaps Yomi’s scythe in half. That’s little deterrant since Yomi can still blas windblades and tears up Musubi’s clothing, all the while ranting about what a perverse guy Minato is. Musubi turns the tables on her by tearing off Yomi’s clothes and the blasting the sekirei mark on Yomi’s back into oblivion.

Akitsu retreats since Yomi lost, and a couple men watch all of this from above.

Once home, Kusano’s so happy to be with Minato, that she kisses him and grows her wings as flowers bloom all around them.

  • Newprimus says:

Dunno, I think if you were a sekirei and you were dealing and getting back hits that strong, your casual wear would get pretty torn up too. Can’t go around in conspicuous body armor either. :D

  • shadow says:

Then all action is only fanservice, very bad
but is only a girl fight more.
