There are some usage issues with my host that need to be sorted out, so the blog will likely have some… problems… on Tuesday while useful data is being generated to resolve the greater one. I wouldn’t recommend visiting (not like I have anything to say on Tuesdays anyway), but if you do, expect to encounter all sorts of 500 ISEs and similar loading issues. I may make some form of fanservicey pre-Thanksgiving post just to generate some traffic for better data, but just be prepared for loading issues. It should last from midnight to midnight (PST) and everything should in theory be back to normal on Wednesday.

As some form of procrastination, or just tiredness from staring at BMW’s XML files, I finally got around to fixing the css theme selecter that WordPress 2.6.x broke way back in the day, though I had lost my old css so had to write new ones. I’m still tweaking things (especially in the blue one) and will probably add at least one or two more over the week, though I make no promises. Suggestions or notices that something is broken/something looks ugly are welcome. Alternate suggestions about plug-ins I should grab for quality of life improvements here or such while I’m working on things are also fine.

Just a quick FYI… I forget when exactly, but everything on the domain will be down for about 4-6 hours tonight for scheduled maintenance and whatnot. It’s not like I ever have anything useful to say on Fridays anyway. Nothing else to see here. Off with you.

Just a couple quick notes.

• Upgrading to WordPress 2.3 minorly broke a couple things having to do with the stylesheet selector and also the way I had my administrative panel hidden, and you don’t even want to know what it did to other administrative tracking functions. I think I’ve fixed everything, but if you find a problem, let me know.

• Harvard Sucks, Go Red!

• One of the (original) purposes of Seiha.org was to mirror the database for a 6 year old message board that was hemorrhaging data at the time from a memory leak in the server it was hosted on. Likewise, the blog is mirrored on the board’s database. Everything got fixed and the two were updating on the other just fine until about two weeks ago, when they stopped for some as of yet unknown reason. I need to figure this out and fix it, which will involve putzing with the database on Friday since all else has failed and possibly cause problems. Everything’s already backed up in multiple locations though, so just bear with it if you happen upon it and will be backed up again right before people touch anything.

• Harvard Really Sucks

I’m heading out to my alma mater’s homecoming for the rest of the week/through the weekend, so updates will likely be sparse at best. I should be around and probably not too drunk Thursday and Saturday night, but not until late. I make absolutely no promises for Friday, and will probably actually endevor to drink myself stupid since I only get one binge drinking opportunity a year. It’s not like there’s much going on for those days anyway, aside from the clusterfuck of Thursdays. I’ve prepared various things to keep you occupied in my absence. Mostly the usual fanservice image posts, but not all. I should be able to cover stuff, it’ll just probably be rather delayed as compared to usual alacritous self.

Tenka Seiha: blog. A site barely alive. We can rebuild it. We have the technology. We can make it better than it was before. Better… stronger… faster.

Man, I wish I had six million dollars to work on the site. 

The short version is that in the beginning, I really didn’t expect to be writing more than a couple entries a week for this and it was in place for someone else, but I’ve enjoyed it and have kind of taken it over. I’ve been meaning to do at least a minor restructuring for awhile, and this weekend’s as good a time as any. I’d greatly appreciate it if you could go through the poll below and just check off anything you have an opinion on for the direction I should concentrate on taking the blog. 

The big thing is a redesign of how posts are structured, but I pretty much tacked on anything else that came into mind as I was brainstorming. The teasers (little blurbs and caps on the main page, and the blurb for the RSS feed) are almost certainly going to be cut out of the posts themselves. I’m rethinking the way posts are designed with the impressions of the ep first and then the summary though and am almost certainly switching to one of these two styles (and I’ve been contemplating switching to smaller thumbnails… 4 to a line):
Style 1 – All Text In One Place
Style 2 – Summary Interjected Within Screencaps
SubStyle – Smaller Thumbnails

Nothing is hard and fast, and some things are suggestions from other people that would take a landslide for me to change, but for the moment, I’m open to specific thoughts, comments, critiques, etc. A lot of things commonly associated with blogging (number and size of screencaps for example) are very easy to change without me doing any more work. Other things, like my reliance on a torrent to appear before I can cover an episode, not so much. The Current Events thing is also something I have a lot of fun with, but I feel awful if nothing particularly interesting happens for awhile and it just sits up there for a long time.
