Tea For Universe, Tea For Life #01 — The Faces of A Warlord

April 7th, 2011

Bee Train!!

Ah, Bee Train. You always find a way to surpass my expectations. This was more amusing than I had anticipated because it was so goddamned bad. Anybody can just not animate a show, have no direction whatsoever, a boring score, and corny CG pots, but it takes special skill to put them all together and then add El Nobunaga, the Spanish scourge of Japan. Is he supposed to be dressed like Zoro? And then what the hell is going on in the preview for the next episode? Now there’s a robot? And people having sex? Bee Train, what the hell?

If nothing else, it’s a blood goldmine of silly faces. In fact, given the long periods of space where there’s nothing going on but Sasuke staring blankly around the room, I’m not sure that it’s meant to be anything but that. Besides, I can’t take this show seriously at all when the characters look like they’re stoned as their default state and their eyes start bulging out of their heads at the sight of CG pots. As I said above, production is awful on just about every front as well, so the only visually interesting thing going on are the silly faces and the occasion Dutch Angle thrown in for absolutely no reason. I guess even the director was getting bored.

So as you may have guess, ha! Nothing to see here but some guy being a complete putz and Conquistador Nobunaga sashaying around in his fancy hat. There’s no real plot aside from Sasuke obsessing over tea-based things and struggling to be really really lame in El Nobunaga’s world.

Two shows down for today! Six more to go!

The robots arrive in Feudal Japan.

Oh, wow, should I follow this show because of the funny faces? XD

  • kojirokakita says:

Interestingly enough this is almost taken frame by frame from the manga. So I don’t know how much is BeeTrain’s fault since the material they have is pretty much summed up by what you said
