2010 Spring Premiere Week Wrapup

April 7th, 2010

Streeeeeeeeeeeeeeetch…

Well, everything that’s going to air has aired except for JCStaff’s show about boys wrapped in ivy on crosses on Sunday, and the two noitaminA shows on successive Thursdays, both of which look like they’ll take a rather oppressive amount of marijuana to even understand. I did check out at least a few minutes of the two baseball shows (they were incomprehensible and one involved soccer) and SD Gundam, but that made even Ikkitousen look nuanced and deep. I suppose that’s laudable in and of itself.

There’s a limited amount of time in the day, and since I’m one of the few, the proud, the willing and arguably capable of watching this stuff without waiting for someone to subtitle things, my schedule for watching stuff syncs up more or less with the actual broadcast schedule. Therefore, there’s only so much that I can deal with in a day. Here’s the quick list of all the shows over the past week (plus the ongoing ones I’m already following) along with a short blurb designed to reduce a 24 minute episode to a quarter second bullet point. Comprehensive… it is not, but if you want more information, each one is linked to either my post on it.

Anything that I am 100% certain I’m going to cover gets a little crown, but that doesn’t mean I’ll stick with it past the next episode or two. Likewise, just because I’m not psyched about something doesn’t mean that I won’t pick it up. If you’ve got any input, flames, or desperate begging, go wild.

MONDAY

kiss x sis

Because apparently you can never have enough badly made incest and panties.

Night Raid

Heroes: China, now with even more explanation about how important things are.

TUESDAY

Overrun!

The leads are okay, the rest of the cast and the production needs a lot of work, but Tuesdays suck, so… *shrug*

K-ON!!

 HSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

WEDNESDAY

Shin Koihime Musou: OT

Save the catgirl, save the world.

THURSDAY

B Cup Sex Maniac

Surprisingly fun, comedic, and even a little touching. In the no-no region.

HEROMAN

How does Stan Lee keep getting work?

Ikkitousen XX

I’m pretty sure that Ikkitousen and I have have some kind of battered wife relationship going at this point.

The School President’s a Maid

"I’m a strong independent woman! Wait, no, I’m just a wilting flower like all females." Uh huh.

FRIDAY

Angel Beats!

Massive problems in every department except technical production. I think Jun took the money and ran.

The Demon King in the Back Row

I’d be a lot happier about this one if the three leads introduced so far weren’t as dense as singularities.

SATURDAY

Doctor Who

Great start to the new series… except for the giant pulsing dildo in the TARDIS. That… terrifies me.

Giant Killing

Contains no giants and no killing. Just a lot of elevator music.

Hakuouki

Oops. Forgot all about my precious… precious…bishies. It’s lucky they’re pretty, because there’s nothing on the inside.

Rainbow

You can tell it’s deep because it’s poorly lit and is about a bunch of tormented misunderstood teens.

SUNDAY

Arakawa Under the Bridge

Yet Another Shinbo Shaft ShowTM

WORKING!!

With the intros out of the way, hopefully they can make this a little more than just a slew of archetypes.

Wrapup:

For the time being, my schedule is tentatively looking like:

Monday: Meh
Tuesday: Overrun
Wednesday: Perhaps Koihime if I get drunk first
Thursday: B Cup and Ikki, maybe Heroman if the next episode(s) suck a lot less
Friday: Demon King, maybe Angel Beats if it can pull itself together
Saturday: Thank you, Britain
Sunday: Probably whichever of Working/Arakawa that annoys me less with its second episode

It’s still so strage to me to have the weekends relatively free. I do like to have at least six or seven shows to keep up with a season, so I’m definitely going to be giving a number of shows a second look, particularly on the off-days, but we’ll see. Four shows so far that I’m at least partially arguably maybe a little enthusiastic about isn’t too bad, especially coming off a season where I watched at least two shows from the start out of pure spite.

31 Shouts From the Peanut Gallery

  • Celestial says:

    when r u blogging k-on?????????

    • rozen123 says:

I think the “HSSSSSSSS” is enough indication that he’ll avoid K-on like there’s no tommorow. (Correct me if I am wrong arodoc)

Besides, K-on is overrated and I bet many anime blogs are covering K-on already.

But at least seiha is going to be blogging the shows I am watching, I’m happy.

      • Aroduc says:

‘Celestial’ is just trying to vicariously blog through me. I should just subsume him already.

      • chad001 says:

I was hoping he would blog it, just to diss it like the bag of abused, shiy, it is.

  • GreyDuck says:

Okay, so it’s not just me with the new TARDIS innuendo machine thing. (Still, a stronger showing from that first episode than most of the Rusty specials over the last year. I liked Tennant, but sheesh, that got wildly over-the-top toward the end.)

I tried to watch H Something B Ko or whatever, got a few minutes in and bailed. Which sucks, because I was hoping that’d be my go-to “silly naughty comedy type thing” for the season. I mean, it’s not like any of the REST of it looks all that good…

  • ShuffleAir says:

Did you forget Hakuouki, the bishie show? But it’s so delicious.

  • Omisyth says:

    >Thank you, Britain

    You’re welcome, good sir.

  • Yue says:

Please… (ugh) can’t stop… laughing at discriminate hatred towards K~On!!

honestly, the badgerwhatevermammal pic truly inscribes much fear and intimidation to anyone with the guts to convince blogging the show otherwise.

BADGER: I HATESSSSSSHHH FLUFFY TEATIME MUSSSSSSHHHIC!!

    • Ardi says:

surely that looks like a vampiric bat

      • Yue says:

At first look, those fangs might just say that it’s a bat. But a bat’s fur is streamlined for aerodynamic purposes, so this animal’s fur says it’s for hibernating and suited for making dens or something.

Even though I don’t have a bachelor’s degree in zoology, the site’s directory even tells that the image file’s name is “badger”. ^_^

  • Albedo says:

    blog kissxsis.

I want to see you tear that show a new one each week. That show is just begging for it anyway.

I’ll send you money if you do ^^

  • Hinano says:

are you sure it’s b cup?
cause as far as I know B GATA is “blood type B” its even written in the kanji as B型H系 and åž‹ always refers to blood type so I don’t think this has anything to do with her boobs.

I think you summarized gayon pretty well there.

    • Aroduc says:

It’s a pun between her personality/blood type (Japanese pseudo psychological voodoo) and cup size. And because they have all the cups/types of the other characters flashing up in the OP, yeah, I’m pretty sure. Either that, or Japan has magical C and F blood types.

  • Avisch says:

Man, I’m no big fan of Heroman, but I would do some drastic things to hear your commentary on it.

  • Pozzy says:

I think you’ll be glad to know.

K-ON is planning on a third season already.

    I cant wait either.

also, you definitely need to blog KissXSis. As someone else noted, its just begging to be flamed. I look forward to your thoughts on each episode.

    • Are you folks sadists? You would inflict such pain and punishment on your good friend Aroduc? What has he done to deserve this?

      • Nanaya says:

Previously decide to cover Princess Lover, Railgun, Birdy, Ladies vs Butlers, Kanokon, Kiddy Girl, Nabari no Ou, and so on, and so on…

It would be like his karma coming back to bite him in the ass. Only funnier.

      • Albedo says:

        Indeed I am a sadist.

  • MisaoFan says:

Tena on S-String will maybe broadcasted on April 22.

Plot summary : The Soul Score is that is something not unlike the threads of fate which tell the story of a person’s life from the minute they are born to the finale of death. Few people can see this score, even fewer can manipulate it. After being hit by a car and nearly killed, Kyosuke Hibiki can see and hear this mysterious soul score. Soon after, he meets a girl named Tena (ressembling to Shana and Louise as a tsundere), a “tuner” who is able to manipulate the score and remove discordant notes to bring it back into tune. Tena is determined to make Kyosuke her pet, but Kyosuke is none too fond of it. Yet, the two begin their dissonant duet…

    • Skew says:

Pretty sure Aroduc, or at least someone here, mentioned that never went past beyond just being a rumor.

      • Aroduc says:

Yeah, there was a rumor about it around a year ago which was quickly disproven, but there’s never been even the smallest rumblings of anything since. Maybe confused about a volume release or something. I have no idea.

  • Yue says:

    Unexpectedly Entertaining Award:
    [Ichiban ushiro no DAIma~Oh]

    Funniest Blog Treatment Award:
    [K~On!!]

    Cheesiest Romantic Setup Award:
    [Kaichou wa Maido~sama]

  • MisaoFan says:

Before the anime, Tena on S-String is based as a manga by Sesuna Mikabe published since 2006 in Hobunsha seinen moe magazine “Manga Time Kirara Forward” (the same as K-On!). Since June 2009 as announced that the manga will be adapted into a anime by Sunrise to be released on April 22, 2010.

  • Aroduc says:

You guys want me to blog entirely too many bad things just because they’re bad. I’m already watching Ikkitousen. Isn’t that enough?

  • Chen says:

    No.

  • TheLonelyGod says:

Can you cover Doctor Who if you keep watching it?

  • rincewind says:

This season is lacking yuri… so sad. This is despairing!!!
    IM IN DESPAIR!!
THE LACK OF YURI OF THIS SEASON HAS LEFT ME IN DESPAIR!!!

  • Yilsen says:

I can’t believe that I found a website talks about “Doctor Who” and “Absolutely Lovely Children” !
